Job Description:
A Brief OverviewProvides supervision and leadership for assigned staff and plays an integral role in laboratory operations, including but not limited to hiring, disciplinary action, discharging, scheduling, assigning work, and recognition. Performs tests and procedures following established guidelines and predetermined criteria. Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance and/or results and uses knowledge, critical thinking skills, and judgment to troubleshoot and resolve them. Must meet requirements to sign off moderate and high complexity competencies. Must be proficient in all Technical Specialist, Medical Technologist/Technician job duties. Must also supervise phlebotomy, lab assistants, lab courier, and other positions as assigned.What you will do
+ Oversee the workflow of the departments and communicate standards.
+ Perform direct supervision of staff, to include clinical reviews.
+ Plan and prepare employee work schedules.
+ Coordinate activities with other departments to ensure that services are provided in an efficient and timely manner.
+ Implement and maintain production and quality standards for the staff.
+ Ensure that staff applies primary knowledge while performing all aspects of assigned tasks.
+ Ensure documentation is completed according to department policies and procedures.
+ Respond to complaints in a timely manner. Investigate complaints about service and equipment and take corrective action.
+ Screen job applicants and hire new employees.
+ Participate in training and orientation of new staff; provides ongoing education.
+ Instruct staff in work policies and procedures, and the use and maintenance of equipment. Check equipment to ensure it is in working order.
+ Evaluate employee performance and recommend personnel actions such as promotions, transfers, and dismissals.
+ Confer with staff to resolve performance and personnel problems, and to discuss company policies.
+ Perform or assist with departmental operational duties as necessary. Recommend changes that could improve service and increase operational efficiency. Maintain required records of work hours, budgets, payrolls, and other information.
+ Establish and implement operational standards and procedures for the department supervised.
+ Perform financial tasks, such as estimating costs and preparing and managing budgets.
+ Prepare reports on activity, personnel, and information such as occupancy, hours worked, facility usage, work performed, and departmental expenses.
+ Research and articulate "best practices" in the industry. Participate in process re-design efforts including technology enhancements or implementations.
Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or in Chemistry, Biology or related field. Required and
+ One-year clinical internship in a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited clinical laboratory science program or approved alternate career path that meets certification eligibility requirements Required and
+ Certification in one of the following: - Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent certification. Required
+ 4-6 years Clinical laboratory experience Required
+ Health care experience within the last five years Preferred
+ Computer skills highly desired Preferred
+ Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
+ Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
+ Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
+ Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
+ The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
+ Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
+ Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
+ Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
+ Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
+ Teaching others how to do something.

+ Work schedule requirements: Able to work scheduled shift and may be asked to change shifts to meet departmental staffing needs. May be asked to work extended hours.
