Job Title: Design Engineer
Job Description
The Design Engineer will lead the design, development, and testing of custom engineering pumps for hydraulic applications, specializing in high-pressure, high-flow systems.
This role supports several industries, including aerospace, forging presses, extrusion presses, die casting manufacturing, and offshore drilling applications.
The Design Engineer manages 2-3 projects simultaneously, with durations ranging from 6 months to 3 years, ensuring they reach commercialization. Additionally, the role involves supporting sales efforts, meeting with customers, and assisting in product implementation on rigs or sites.
Responsibilities
+ Design pump applications using Inventor or Solidworks, accounting for 70% of work time.
+ Conduct testing, including writing test protocols, building test components, setting up tests, running tests, collecting data, and evaluating results, which constitutes 20% of work time.
+ Spend 10% of time on the production floor analyzing pump failures to determine root causes and identify improvement opportunities.
+ Collaborate with manufacturing partners and heat treat vendors to develop and update production processes and specifications, ensuring the quality and performance of pump components.
+ Utilize simulation software such as CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and FEA (Finite Element Analysis) to optimize designs.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Solidworks, Inventor, or Creo).
+ Experience in hydraulic pump design or fluid power systems design.
+ Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
+ Knowledge of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and finite element analysis (FEA) tools.
+ Ability to create testing procedures and operate testing equipment.
+ Familiarity with hydraulic systems and pumps.
+ Experience with axial piston pumps and variable displacement pumps.
"Nice to have" Skills & Qualifications
+ Familiarity with hydraulic pump design standards such as ISO, ANSI, and API.
+ Design experience with variable displacement pumps or axial piston pumps.
+ Experience in rotating group design for pumps.
Work Environment
Standard work hours with flexibility to start between 7-8 am. Periodic overtime is expected based on project needs.
International travel once a year and 2-3 domestic travels per year, typically lasting one week or less, to customer facilities or other company locations.
The role offers a collaborative atmosphere, working alongside a team of 10 engineers, including a manager with over 15 years of experience.
Benefits include salaried compensation, 10/11 paid holidays (with one floater), and 100 hours of front-loaded PTO for new hires, pro-rated based on start date.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $95000.00 - $110000.00/yr.
