    Position Summary

    The Title VII and Equal Opportunity Coordinator will direct institutional efforts (including policy and protocol development) to ensure compliance with Title VII, ADEA, Section 504, ADA, and other applicable local, state, and federal laws. Partner with leadership in carrying out those duties mandated by Title VII, ADEA, Section 504, ADA, and other related city, state, and federal laws. Serve as a primary point of contact in the Office of Equal Opportunity for faculty, staff, and students on claims including those regarding discrimination and/or harassment based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sex, age, pregnancy, or disability involving students, employees and/or third parties at the University. Serve as a key leader in ensuring NYU's compliance with federal, state, and local law in the area of equal opportunity by analyzing and solving equal opportunity and civil rights problems through a complaint process, mediation, negotiation, and effective collaboration with department leadership as well as senior human resources management. Manage Title VII and EO assessments and investigations for the NYU Community. Oversee any reporting requirements for the University to applicable authorities and assist with the University’s response to its prevention obligations. Meet with complainants and respondents; advising them of their rights and resources in accordance with University policy and law; conducting assessments and intake; conducting prompt, thorough, and impartial investigations; providing detailed, unbiased reports on investigations; and/or oversight of the same. Create and participate in trainings to educate the University community on policy, laws and regulations, and reporting obligations. Manage relationships with outside counsel, communicate with the complainants whose cases have been sent to outside counsel, and manage internal correspondence.

    Qualifications

    Required Education:

    Juris Doctorate (J.D.)

    Required Experience:

    5+ years professional experience conducting Title VII and/or Equal Opportunity investigations in a higher-education setting or other related setting with knowledge of employee and student matters.

    Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

    Excellent judgment with the ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information. Strong skills in the areas of conflict resolution, problem solving, interviewing, and investigation. Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess and negotiate complex, highly sensitive situations. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including skill in writing concise, logical analytical reports to convey complex issues. Excellent critical thinking skills, including the demonstrated ability to analyze information, evaluate results, and facilitate resolution of difficult challenges while maintaining strict confidentiality and sensitivity. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the demonstrated ability to listen well and demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for individual needs. Ability to maintain neutrality and work under stress. Ability to work collaboratively and professionally across multiple constituencies to resolve complaints in a neutral, sensitive manner. Working knowledge of nondiscrimination laws and compliance regulations (including Title VI, Title IX, ADA/Section 504, and other civil rights laws).

    Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

    Direct experience conducting Title VII and/or Equal Opportunity Investigations for student and employee complainants is preferred. Applicable investigatory training and certification, or ability to obtain such certification within 60 days of employment

     

    Additional Information

     

    In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $150,000.00 to USD $190,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
