    Overview:

    MPC has an opportunity for an Associate BP&A Analyst! This opportunity is located in Catlettsburg, KY and will report to the Marine BP&A Manager. Marine BP&A is responsible for supporting the movement of Marathon’s refined products, feedstocks, black oil, and specialty products. Marine Transportation utilizes both MPC-owned and operated boats / barges and chartered equipment to transport these products. The Analyst will analyze data and compile reports relative to Marine Transportation’s business as well as monitor / manage the accounts payable invoice process.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Gathers data from various sources for monthly operational and financial performance analysis; organizes this data to create a structured foundation for further analysis.

    + Assists in the development of business plans, forecasts, and expense budgets by gathering data and updating templates as required.

    + Conducts basic variance analysis of financial data; identifies trends, anomalies, and simple discrepancies requiring further investigation.

    + Maintains financial models or develops simple models to support monitoring of KPIs and performance metrics or other ad hoc requests.

    + Identifies areas for process improvement within the role, proposing changes to improve efficiency and accuracy.

    + Verification of expenses by gathering data from various systems including operation specific systems, CLM, and SAP, and communicating with other operational departments to verify validity of invoices.

    + Performs processing duties involving repetitive/non-repetitive calculations, verifications, and data entry. Validates/verifies invoices and processes for payment.

    + Ensure proper classification of expenses by review of cost center account, account code, statistical order expenses and verification of accounting entries.

    + Interfaces with other department personnel and/or external contacts to solve problems, gather information and coordinate flow of information to ensure timely payment of vendor invoices.

    + Identifies and assists/solves challenging situations and unusual problems with limited guidance.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    + Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related discipline required.

    + Zero (0) to Three (3) years in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
