We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Corporate Loan Accountant to join our Bank Operations team. This role is responsible for the accurate reconciliation, accounting, and reporting of corporate loan transactions, including both direct deal loans and syndicated loan participations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of loan structures, accounting principles, and operational workflows within a banking environment.
Loan Accounting & Reconciliation
+ Maintain accurate accounting records for corporate loan portfolios, including direct and syndicated loans.
+ Reconcile loan balances between internal systems, agent banks, and general ledger accounts.
+ Investigate and resolve discrepancies in loan transactions, interest accruals, and fee allocations.
+ Understand transactions related to syndicated loans, including drawdowns, repayments, interest payments, and fee distributions.
Reporting & Compliance
+ Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on loan performance, outstanding balances, and accounting entries.
+ Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting standards (e.g., GAAP), and regulatory requirements.
+ Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and explanations for loan-related entries.
Process Improvement & Collaboration
+ Collaborate with front office, credit, and treasury teams to streamline loan processing and reporting workflows.
+ Participate in system upgrades, automation initiatives, and process improvement projects.
Technical & Functional Skills
+ Loan Accounting Knowledge: Deep understanding of loan structures, interest calculations, amortization schedules, and accounting treatment for both direct and syndicated loans.
+ Reconciliation Expertise: Ability to reconcile complex loan balances across internal systems, agent bank records, and the general ledger.
+ Financial Reporting: Proficiency in preparing accurate and timely financial reports, including loan performance, accruals, and fee income.
+ Regulatory Compliance: Familiarity with banking regulations (e.g., SOX, Basel III, OCC guidelines) and accounting standards (GAAP).
Systems & Tools Proficiency
+ Loan Management Systems: Experience with platforms like Loan IQ, or similar
+ Excel & Data Analysis: Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas) for data manipulation and reporting.
+ Syndicated Loan Platforms: Knowledge of ClearPar, or similar tools used in syndicated loan processing.
Soft Skills
+ Attention to Detail: Precision in handling financial data and identifying discrepancies.
+ Analytical Thinking: Ability to interpret data trends, resolve variances, and support decision-making.
+ Communication: Clear and professional communication with internal teams, agent banks, and auditors.
+ Time Management: Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
+ Collaboration: Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work cross-functionally with credit, treasury, and front-office team
Qualifications
+ 3+ years of experience in loan accounting or bank operations, preferably with exposure to syndicated lending.
+ Strong understanding of loan products, accounting principles, and financial reporting.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with loan management systems (e.g. Loan IQ, or similar).
+ Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
+ Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ CPA or progress toward CPA designation.
+ Experience with syndicated loan agency platforms (e.g. ClearPar, or similar).
+ Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as SOX, Basel III, or OCC guidelines.
