Position Summary:

SolomonEdwards is seeking a highly experienced Home Equity Loan Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support a strategic assessment of loan servicing policies and procedures for a regional banking client. This role is integral to a team focused on evaluating and enhancing operational processes related to home equity loans from post-close to default and foreclosure. The SME will collaborate closely with a Business Data Analyst and project consultants to advise on servicing strategy, default triggers, subservicer oversight, and impairment policies, bringing a deep understanding of consumer finance, sub-prime lending, and risk mitigation strategies.

Essential Duties:

• Provide expert analysis and insight on home equity loan servicing practices, including post-close servicing, default management, foreclosure, and charge-off strategies.

• Assess subservicer performance, legal status triggers (e.g., bankruptcy, non-accrual, charge-offs), and impairment policies.

• Evaluate collections and recovery strategies, recommending improvements and operational alignment with regulatory and risk management requirements.

• Advise on KPIs, data analytics, and portfolio performance metrics tied to servicing, loss mitigation, and repossession.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, finance, legal, and vendor management.

• Deliver written assessments, strategic recommendations, and presentations to client stakeholders and SolomonEdwards leadership.

• Bring a consultative mindset to support iterative weekly deliverables, strategic planning, and documentation.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.

• 10+ years establishing home equity loans and lines of credit

• 10+ years of experience managing home equity loans and lines of credit, particularly in sub-prime portfolios.

• 7+ years in strategic operations, collections, and recovery implementation for consumer finance products.

• Demonstrated expertise in loan servicing, foreclosure management, repossession, and subservicing oversight.

• Deep understanding of default and impairment triggers, non-accrual flags, charge-offs, and legal statuses impacting servicing strategy.

• Experience partnering with finance and operations to assess data integrity and operational risk.

Skills and Job-Specific Competencies:

• Strong analytical mindset with a track record of using data and KPIs to drive servicing performance.

• Previous consulting experience strongly preferred; must be highly organized, proactive, and comfortable delivering insights in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

• Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to interface at all organizational levels.

• Demonstrated leadership in team oversight and vendor management within a financial services environment.

Salary Range: SolomonEdwards values your unique and individual experience and background. As such, we take a comprehensive approach when determining compensation for our roles. The compensation for this specific role is based on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to education, licensure and certifications, location, experience, and training. A reasonable estimate for the current hourly range for this role is $85 – 95.
