Job Description
NOTE: This position is offered as a hybrid role in the Seattle, WA area. You must be willing to work in office at the Nordstrom Seattle office a minimum of 3 days/week to be considered for this position.
As the Director of Merchandising & Planning, Rack - Beauty you will be responsible for creating and overseeing the execution of a customer centric merchandise strategy, including the planning, selection, and procurement of product. Your KPI's include sales, gross margin, turn and market share growth; and you will drive the digital experience as well as customer acquisition and satisfaction. As a leader, you will create an inclusive and collaborative work environment and effectively influence down, across and up pyramid, and you will develop your team for succession readiness.
A day in the life…
+ Develops product strategies, sets direction with both immediate and future focus lens, that align with corporate priorities.
+ Develops and executes key short- and long-term strategy, inclusive of sourcing of product, liquidity, and vendor mix
+ Clearly articulates strategies and priorities to all levels and audiences
+ Identifies new business opportunities- collaborations, trends, new markets and leads buying teams to pursue these opportunities
+ Ensures fiscal discipline is practiced in order to achieve profitable growth while maintaining inventory discipline; holds team accountable to OTB management
+ Serve as a change leader in the division, supporting company initiatives and ensuring adoption by merchandising team; maintains focus; keeps priorities clear and simple
+ Partners with DMM to set objectives both short and long term and ideates on solutions for current business problems
+ Reviews assortments generated by teams to ensure alignment with strategy and corresponding category and financial plans as well as E2E key opportunities
+ Oversees the assortment planner in ensuring quantification of the buy is appropriate and meets channel specific needs
+ Guides the team in analyzing in season business and quickly move from data to insights to execute optimization for short term (chase, cancellations, RTV’s, VF’s) and long-term opportunities.
+ Works cross functionally with key partners on priorities and ensures there is alignment with customer and product strategy (Financial planning, Planning, Allocation, RP, Price, Fashion Office, Marketing)
+ Develops direct reports and broader team identifying specific leadership opportunities and experiences to develop future merchant leaders
You own this if you have...
+ Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising or related field (preferred)
+ 10+ years of experience in retail buying or assortment planning - expertise in beauty category (preferred)
+ Minimum 3 – 5 years of experience in management and leadership roles with proven progression and ability to lead cross-functional teams of both direct and indirect reports with demonstrated ability to prioritize, delegate, and drive shared outcomes
+ Proven track record of thought leadership and ability to leverage data to build business cases to influence leadership decision-making
+ Demonstrated understanding of retail and the service environment of Nordstrom and ability to navigate Nordstrom organization and processes
+ Ability to build strong relationships with peers and senior leadership
+ Strategic planning experience in translating leadership vision into executable strategies and initiatives
+ Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with ability to present complex material in a digestible, consumable manner to executives and senior leaders

Pay Range Details
The pay range(s) below has been provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different for other locations. Pay offers are dependent on the location, as well as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
$150,000.00 - $245,000.00 Annual
This position may be eligible for performance-based incentives/bonuses. Benefits include 401k, medical/vision/dental/life/disability insurance options, PTO accruals, Holidays, and more.
