General Information & Responsibilities
TYPE OF SUPERVISION GIVEN TO OTHERS: Indirect supervision given to student workers.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Employer Relations Specialist is responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with employers in the local, regional, and national communities to enhance career opportunities for students and alumni. This role will play a crucial part in promoting the college to employers as a valuable source of talent for internship and full-time positions. The Employer Relations Specialist will also serve as the Skills USA advisor, connecting business and industry to classroom learning, bringing relevancy to technical education and SkillsUSA Framework instruction.
Description of Duties
DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
+ Proactively identifies and cultivates relationships with potential employer partners through various outreach methods, including cold calling, email campaigns, and in-person visits.
+ Attends industry events, job fairs, and networking functions to represent the college and build relationships.
+ Initiates and maintains contacts with employers to develop internships.
+ Presents to campus community and business community on experiential learning.
+ Maintains an accurate and up-to-date database (Handshake) of employer contacts, job postings, and internship opportunities
+ Promotes the college's career services resources to employers.
+ Assists in the development and implementation of career-related programs and initiatives, such as employer panels, career fairs, and workshops.
+ Establishes new chapter of SkillsUSA at Black Hawk College; recruits student members and elect and train officers.
+ Serves as a guide, facilitator and advisor to students, empowering student members to take the lead of their SkillsUSA chapter.
+ Provides intentional instruction about the SkillsUSA Framework and Essential Elements, allowing students to define, develop and demonstrate the skills identified.
+ Prepares students to demonstrate their skills through local championships that are assessed by business and industry.
+ Prepares regular reports on employer engagement activities, student career outcomes, and program effectiveness.
+ Maintains strong communication with the Career Services staff and other relevant stakeholders.
DESCRIPTION OF OTHER DUTIES:
+ Maintains career resources, and confidential client and employer records.
+ Assists in staffing the Career Services office during regular business hours.
+ Facilitates the student referral process among the College’s student services, departments, and/or community services and collaborates with necessary areas of the College to promote efficient referral and delivery of services.
+ Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

+ Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, Marketing, or a related field, or a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in career services, recruitment, sales, or a related field.
+ Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with employers.
+ Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills (both written and verbal).
+ Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Handshake software.
+ Experience with social media and digital marketing is a plus.
+ Ability to maintain confidentiality required.
+ Ability to work with diverse populations required.
+ Ability to exercise independent judgment required.
+ Valid driver license and the ability to travel required.
