Description:
As a member of the pharmacy leadership team, this manager is expected to develop, implement and maintain clinical
pharmacy services for MercyOne and CSH Iowa Division owned acute care and outpatient facilities. Develops, provides
oversight of, and is accountable for programs and services that optimize CSH national and Iowa Division medication use
initiatives and activities.
Provides direction on the use and implementation of clinical pharmacy programs as they apply to medication-related
technologies, information systems, safe medication management practices, cost containment, regulatory oversight and
compliance, and, overall pharmacy and Iowa Division operational excellence activities.
Supports & effectively collaborates with the Market Director of Pharmacy, and both CSH national and Iowa Division
pharmacy leaders.
Collaborates with national and regional pharmacy leaders on medication use initiatives.
• Assists with implementing, evaluating, and optimizing national pharmacy & medication use initiatives
which are pertinent to the Iowa Regional Health Ministry.
• Assists with organizing and delegating P&T meetings and related activities.
• Coordinates system-wide formulary management to include review of all non-formulary requests and
national formulary appeals.
• Coordinates education and training and quality assurance programs designed to more fully develop the
clinical skills of the pharmacy staff to advance the pharmacy initiatives.
• Maintains overall oversight & responsibility of/for MercyOne Medical Center Clinical Specialists, Clinical
pharmacist and pharmacy residents.
• Assists with hiring, orienting and training of pharmacists.
• Assists in the oversight of the pharmacy residency programs, supporting residency program directors in
maintaining compliance with ASHP standards, ensuring a sufficient complement of eligible and fully qualified
preceptors is available, and serve as an additional liaison between the residents and the preceptors, staff and
management.
• Represents MercyOne pharmacy at national, local and department committees as appropriate and
assigned.
• Responsible for scheduling, goal-setting, evaluation of, and payroll processing for direct reports.
• Acts as primary clinical pharmacy liaison for Iowa market entities outside of current scope of
responsibility (example: MercyOne clinic sites).
• Coordinates services within the area of responsibility and works with other departments or areas within
the pharmacy to resolve problems.
• Maintains knowledge of and complies with applicable federal and state pharmacy laws and
regulations.
• Completes required hospital education annually.
• Coordinates drug utilization reviews, clinical intervention documentation and other quality assurance
programs in accordance with regulatory guidance and department needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Pharmacy degree (BS or Pharm.D.) from an ACPE
+ approved College of Pharmacy.
+ • Advanced degree (MS, postgraduate Pharm.D., or
+ MBA) or equivalent experience
+ Licensed, or eligible for licensure, pharmacist in Iowa
+ Board certification required
+ Residency in hospital pharmacy accredited by ASHP or
+ equivalent experience.
+ Five years’ experience in hospital pharmacy preferred.
