A Glimpse of the Job
The role supports the Hospital Manager in the care and rehabilitation of sea turtle patients by assisting with medical intake, sample processing, treatments, and veterinary procedures. Responsibilities include maintaining accurate records, monitoring patient progress, performing husbandry tasks, and ensuring hospital cleanliness. The position also contributes to rescue, recovery, necropsies, release, and general GCSTR duties as needed.
Essential Duties/Tasks
Key Responsibilities are to assist the Hospital Manager with the following duties:
Patient Care
+ Assist in the intake and assessment of new sea turtle patients
+ Perform blood draws, process samples, and carry out basic lab work and analyses related to sea turtle care
+ Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian, and directed by the Hospital Manager
+ Prepare and transport patients for veterinary examinations and procedures
+ Maintain accurate medical records and assist in patient care documentation
+ Monitor patient progress and report concerns to the Hospital Manager
Hospital Duties and Other Duties
+ Assist with husbandry tasks as needed to ensure optimal health and comfort of patients
+ Maintain cleanliness and organization in hospital areas, including lab and treatment spaces
+ Fill in open shifts, and assist with hospital operations as needed
+ Support rescue and release efforts as required
+ Fulfill any other GCSTR duties as requested

Required Education
+ B.S. in Biology, Marine Biology or related field
Preferred Qualifications
+ 1-2 years of experience in a veterinary clinic, hospital, or wildlife rehabilitation setting
+ Experience with sea turtles
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Strong communication and teamwork skills
+ Must have valid driver's license and personal vehicle covered by insurance
+ Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and respond to emergencies as needed
+ Proficient in basic lab work related to animal care, including blood sample handling and microscope use
+ Veterinary technical expertise.
Additional Information
Machines or equipment used in the performance of essential dutiesUltrasound, doppler, microscopes, radiology, IStat blood chemistry, and other equipment pertaining to the care of wildlife
Physical RequirementsComfortable working in a dynamic, outdoor, and sometimes physically demanding environmentMust be able to lift 50 lbs., ability to swim 100m in two to four minutes; willingness to receive CPR and first aid training
