Amazon Route 53 is a highly available and scalable Domain Name System (DNS) service offered by Amazon Web Services. We operate in over 50 locations worldwide and provide advanced functionality such as latency-based routing (LBR), Private DNS, Geo DNS routing, DNS failover, and integration with Amazon CloudFront, Amazon S3, and Amazon Elastic Load Balancing. On top of that, we offer fast change propagation with a 100% availability SLA. Our service is quickly growing and we're expanding in multiple directions: adding new features and functionality to our DNS services, better traffic management, new AWS integrations, improving our health check capabilities, and expanding with new services in the naming and routing space. Amazon Route 53 is looking for an experienced Software Development Manager to lead our platform team which owns and operates critical infrastructure and services for our edge fleets. Today, this team support two key edge products: the compute infrastructure (hardware, networking, os, and fleet management) used by our 100% available public DNS service in AWS Edge locations all over the world, and Route 53 Resolver for Outposts which is a managed service that provides low-latency DNS resolution for performance sensitive customers within their own data centers.

In this role you you will directly manage a team of talented Software Development and Systems Development Engineers and drive projects that span the wider AWS Infrastructure organization. The ideal candidate has experience managing engineers working on distributed systems, networking and infrastructure, and/or hybrid-clouds and thrives in highly collaborative, creative, analytical, and fast-paced environment. Strong communication and writing skills are a must, as well as a strong focus on operational and engineering excellence.

Basic Qualifications

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience

- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

- * Masters Degree in Computer Science or related field

- * Demonstrated success building and leading teams

- * Strong performance engineering and capacity planning background

- * Strong engineering fundamentals (networking, network services, operating systems)

- * Experience leading teams running Network Services like DNS and protocols like TCP, UDP

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
