Position Details
General Statement
University Catering (http://www.montana.edu/ufs/catering/) provides full catering services for campus and other contracted events. A sample of the 2000 events worked per year include: VIP meals, buffets, served meals, coffee breaks, drop-offs, and sack lunches. The number of catered events can be upwards of 15-35 daily.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Assistant General Manager and collaborating with the catering sales and back of house teams, the Catering Sales Manager:
+ Acts as the primary point of contact for clientele
+ Sells, plans, organizes, schedules staff, and executes a wide range of events of all sizes from 2 to 1500+ people (banquets, receptions, luncheons, coffee breaks, parties, private dinners, etc )
+ Works in Caterease to create menu proposals, cost estimates, customer confirmations and event bookings. May create invoices.
+ Designs, researches, and actively sets decorations for events.
+ Assists clients with facility set-up and coordinates with other campus entities as needed.
+ Assists with supervising, training, scheduling, and evaluating student and temporary employees as needed.
+ Works at events as needed (plating, serving, cleaning, etc).
+ Participates with the catering team during menu and recipe development.
+ Researches and suggests new menu items and serving styles to stay on trend with the industry.
+ Actively works to controls food and labor costs.
+ Monitors inventory of catering supplies and orders as needed.
+ Performs other administrative duties as needed to support department.
+ And actively participates as a member of the team while performing other duties in support of the department’s mission.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
+ Progressively responsible catering experience in both sales and execution or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Proficient experience working with a computer database plus demonstrated skills using a variety of other software programs.
+ Extensive customer service experience and interpersonal skills dealing effectively and diplomatically with a variety of people.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
+ Catering and/or high activity food service management experience.
+ Extensive experience creating event orders.
+ Significant client budget and/or menu creation experience.
+ Leadership/Supervisory experience coordinating and directing the work of others.

+ Be knowledgeable about State and Federal health and food safety guidelines.
+ Represent the department and its programs in a positive, professional courteous manner

+ Work schedule will vary week to week depending on the needs of the department.
+ Will work early mornings, nights, weekends, and occasional holidays dependent on event schedule.

+ Normal office, kitchen, cooler, freezer, and dock environments.
+ Stationary and/or moving about for long periods of time.
+ Work for long periods of time on the computer and/or the phone.
+ Move all sorts of shapes and sizes of food service delivery and presentation items weighing up to 30lbs; occasionally moving containers weighing up to 50lbs.
+ Use small kitchen utensils and other work related equipment.
+ Perform repetitive motions while decorating, plating, or cleaning.
