ABOUT THIS POSITION:
The team member will coordinate a medium-sized volunteer services program of a County facility or department, act as associate to the director of a volunteer services program at a large County health facility, or coordinate a comprehensive volunteer public relations program at the LAC/USC Medical Center.
Essential Job Functions
+ Plans, develops, and implements volunteer programs.
+ Supervises and participates in the recruitment, selection, orientation, training, and evaluation of volunteers.
+ Develops and maintains an integrated public relations program for volunteer activities.
+ Prepares news bulletins, feature articles, public notices, and public service announcements for all media.
+ Coordinates the dissemination of information to appropriate organizations, auxiliaries, and professional committees.
+ Develops brochures and audio-visual materials for orientation and recruitment of volunteers.
+ Establishes and maintains a positive relationship with the communications media to promote favorable media coverage of volunteer programs and public awareness of facility needs.
+ Has charge of the Medical Center Volunteer Program in the absence of the Director of Volunteer Programs, Medical Center. Acts as liaison between community service groups and County personnel.
+ Speaks before community service groups to recruit new volunteers.
+ Establishes and maintains volunteer program policies and procedures and ensures that volunteers follow departmental and hospital rules and regulations.
+ Evaluates existing volunteer programs and selects new programs.
+ Ensures public awareness of the facilities volunteer program through liaison with news media.
+ Plans volunteer recognition ceremonies for individual volunteers and service groups.
+ Attends staff meetings, professional meetings and conferences.
+ Maintains attendance records of volunteers and compiles periodic activity reports.
+ Identifies suitable contributions and activities of individuals and groups based upon identified needs and ensures that those services, supplies, and equipment are allocated and distributed appropriately.
+ Supervises volunteer assistants, clerical personnel and volunteers engaged in program activities.

Requirements
REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY:
Three years paid or unpaid experience in a volunteer program, one year of which must have been in a supervisory* or administrative** capacity.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS INFORMATION:
*Supervisory Capacity: A position that has formal technical and administrative responsibilities for the supervision of at least three (3) subordinate employees typically in the same or related occupational series. The supervisory employee may not engage regularly in the same work as his/her subordinates more than 40 percent of the time.
**Administrative Capacity: Performs work typically in an administrative services branch of an organizational unit, including responsibility for the development of procedures and participation in policy formulation. Experience at the level of independent responsibility for assignments of average difficulty analyzing and making recommendations for the solution of problems of organization, budget, personnel, information services, programs, facilities planning, materials management, and general management.

ENDORSEMENT OF COUNTY QUALIFICATIONS:

LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS:
Physical Class II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
