Description
Lee County Community Development is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented GIS Planner to join our Planning Section. This entry-level position plays a vital role in compiling, maintaining, analyzing, and presenting land use and community development data using the County’s Geographic Information System (GIS) and related technologies.
The GIS Planner will support informed decision-making and public engagement by transforming complex datasets into clear, actionable insights and compelling visual narratives. Duties and Responsibilities
+ GIS & Data Management: Assist in collecting, maintaining, validating, and implementing land use data using Geographic Information System (GIS) and internal databases.
+ Case Review Coordination: Ensure required legal reviews are completed accurately and consistently for all DCD case types.
+ Public & Staff Assistance: Provide technical assistance and information to staff and the public.
+ Administrative Tasks: Perform routine office tasks, including data entry and file management.
+ Visual & Written Reports: Prepare written reports, graphics, maps, charts, tables, and other visuals.
+ Public Engagement: Attend public meetings, assisting other planning staff as appropriate.
Education, Experience, Licensing
+ Education and Experience: Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate's Degree in Planning, Geography/GIS, or related degree, and two years of technical planning, engineering, development review, or closely related experience.
Supplemental Information
+ Analytical skills: Ability to independently conduct statistical and analytical analysis and apply findings to identify practical solutions to vaguely defined, complex planning issues.
+ Technical proficiency: Proficient use of computer software (including Word, Excel, Access, and GIS) with strong attention to detail regarding format and content.
+ Communication skills: Strong writing skills; ability to effectively present planning data and information to a variety of audiences.
+ Multitasking ability: Ability to manage several projects/issues simultaneously.
+ Teamwork and independence: Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
+ Regulatory knowledge: Ability to research, interpret, and apply local, state, and federal regulations.
*Candidates who reach the interview stage may be required to provide a writing sample for this position.
The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Retirees of the Investment Plan are eligible for renewed membership in the Investment Plan only. FRS reemployment rules apply for both.
