    Job Description

    We are seeking a highly experienced and analytical Senior Accountant to join our finance team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of our financial records, providing key insights, and contributing to strategic financial initiatives. You will be responsible for a variety of complex accounting tasks, including recording intricate financial transactions, performing advanced account reconciliations, preparing comprehensive financial statements, and ensuring robust compliance with accounting regulations. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of accounting principles, advanced proficiency in accounting software, and exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills.

     

    This position will be based in Houston, TX and will report to the Accounting Manager.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Oversee and record Financial Transactions:

    + Accurately record daily financial transactions in the general ledger.

    + Oversee and review the accurate recording of daily financial transactions in the general ledger for other members of the Accounting team.

    + Develop and implement best practices for classifying and coding financial transactions according to company procedures and accounting standards.

    + Prepare, post and review complex journal entries for various accounting activities, including accruals, deferrals, and intercompany transactions.

    + Ensure the integrity and completeness of supporting documentation for all financial transactions.

    Reconcile Accounts:

    + Perform and review complex reconciliations of bank accounts, credit card accounts, and other critical balance sheet accounts.

    + Investigate and proactively resolve significant discrepancies, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.

    + Maintain comprehensive and well-organized records of all reconciliations, serving as a resource for audit trails.

    Prepare Financial Statements:

    + Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements.

    + Conduct in-depth financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.

    + Ensure that financial statements are accurate, complete, and fully compliant with all relevant accounting standards (e.g., GAAP/IFRS).

    Ensure Compliance:

    + Ensure strict adherence to all relevant accounting regulations and company policies, proactively identifying and mitigating compliance risks.

    + Serve as a key point of contact during internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations.

    + Stay abreast of and interpret changes in accounting standards and regulations, assessing their impact on the company's financial reporting.

    Other Responsibilities:

    + Provide guidance and support to junior accounting staff on complex accounting issues and best practices.

    + Collaborate closely with the Accounting Manager on the preparation of tax returns and other regulatory filings.

    + Lead or actively participate in special projects, process improvements, and other initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the finance department.

    Qualifications:

    + Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in Accounting or a related field.

    + CPA preferred.

    + 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting or a related senior role, demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility.

    + Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.

    + Advanced proficiency in accounting software and strong Excel skills (VLOOKUPS, Pivot Tables)

    + Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

    + Strong organizational and time management skills.

    + Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced team environment.

    + JD Edward/ HFM experience a plus.

    Competencies:

    + Results driven and proactive; strong desire to own and execute area of responsibility with excellence and minimal supervision.

    + High competency with accounting software, spreadsheets, databases, data extraction, and MS tools.

    + Highly organized, good time management and attention to detail.

    + Ability to multi-task and drive actions to completion under strict deadlines.

    + Must be able to collaborate and build positive relationships within the Finance team as well as cross-functionally outside of Finance to effectively make recommendations, implement process improvements, etc.

    + Adaptability/flexibility to change as company requires.
