POSITION GENERAL SUMMARY:
Installs, repairs, and maintains industrial electrical systems, controls, lighting and equipment and performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the operation and maintenance of Ada County facilities.
Essential Functions
+ Installs and maintains electrical devices and materials such as conduit, conductors, switch gear, control devices, breakers and motors;
+ Checks and tests life safety devices, exit and emergency lighting, fire alarm systems, and emergency generators;
+ Services and repairs pumps, air compressors, starters, motors and similar equipment;
+ Troubleshoots, tests, locates and repairs electrical circuits and equipment;
+ Plans, designs, lays out and completes installation, modification and repair of electrical systems, controls, lighting and equipment;
+ Makes recommendations and develops specifications for work;
+ Inspects and reviews contracted work for compliance to contract specifications;
+ Maintains records on electrical system maintenance and upgrades;
+ Performs location services on Dig Line requests;
+ Maintains electrical portion of HVAC systems;
+ Repairs, maintains, and trouble shoots boilers, chillers, water heating equipment;
+ Performs maintenance on mechanical, electrical, heating and air conditioning systems.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
+ Assists employees in the performance of electrical or related work;
+ Operates equipment such as trucks, front-end loaders, backhoe, forklift, scissor lifts, bucket trucks, and other equipment;
+ Maintains inventory of electrical stock items;
+ May supervise other staff in the performance of maintenance, trades, and crafts-related duties;
+ Performs related functions as required.
Job Requirements
+ Must be a licensed journeyman electrician in the State of Idaho;
+ Must have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a Journeyman Electrician with commercial, light industrial, and/or institutional experience;
+ Knowledge of the makeup, operation, and installation of a variety of electrical systems, circuits, equipment and controls;
+ Knowledge of the appropriate electrical codes, various gages, sizes and types of wire, conduit, couplings, fittings, relays, boxes, circuit breakers, other electrical devices, and fire alarm systems;
+ Knowledge of the installation and operations of electrical fixtures, wiring and controls;
+ Skill in troubleshooting equipment and control circuits;
+ Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions, read, interpret, and apply building plans, repair manuals, specifications, blueprints, engineering drawings, sketches and building codes;
+ Ability to use formulas basic to the trade to figure out such things as voltage and resistance;
+ Ability to perform a variety of maintenance activities involving building repair, welding, painting, carpentry and plumbing;
+ Ability to operate and clean a variety of hand tools;
+ Ability to set up and adjust equipment to minimize energy usage;
+ Ability to perform the functions of the position safely and operate motor vehicles (including light trucks) safely;
+ Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
+ The incumbent must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license;
+ The incumbent must pass a criminal background check;
+ The incumbent must be available by telephone for contact after hours;
+ The incumbent must be available to work variable shifts, perform overtime work, and may be subject to 24-hour call out in order to repair electrical systems, controls, and equipment;
+ This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing;
+ The incumbent is subject to a Sheriff’s Office security clearance (criminal records) check and fingerprinting;
+ Must be able to support and work at all county facilities and buildings;
+ May be assigned to special assignments as needed.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
+ The incumbent makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and where the parts of the systems worked on may be in hard-to-reach places;
+ The incumbent is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions;
+ The incumbent frequently carries tools and equipment;
+ The incumbent must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.;
+ Work is performed inside and outside, and is sometimes dirty, dusty, and greasy;
+ The work performed may be in and around a jail facility and involves an element of personal danger;
+ The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to the possibility of electrical shock, burns, cuts or bruises.
