The Broadcast Television Director/TD is responsible for the creative and technical execution of live and pre-recorded television productions. This role demands strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a keen eye for visual storytelling. The Director will collaborate closely with producers, talent, and technical crews to ensure the delivery of high-quality, engaging content that meets the network's standards and objectives.
Responsibilities:
+ Creative Vision & Execution: Develop and implement the creative vision for each production, ensuring it aligns with the overall concept and desired outcome. This includes shot selection, camera angles, pacing, and on-screen graphics.
+ Live Directing: Direct live multi-camera productions, making split-second decisions to ensure smooth transitions, capture key moments, and maintain the flow of the broadcast. This includes calling shots, giving cues to camera operators, technical directors, and on-air talent.
+ Pre-Production Planning: Collaborate with producers and other stakeholders to develop detailed production plans, including rundowns, shot lists, graphics integration, and talent blocking. Participate in production meetings to contribute creative ideas and address logistical challenges.
+ On-Set Leadership: Provide clear and decisive direction to the entire production crew during rehearsals and live broadcasts. Foster a collaborative and efficient working environment.
+ Talent Management: Effectively communicate with on-air talent, providing clear direction and support to ensure their best performance.
+ Technical Proficiency: Possess a strong understanding of broadcast equipment and workflows, including cameras, switchers, audio consoles, graphics systems, and video servers. Troubleshoot technical issues as they arise.
+ Time Management & Budget Awareness: Manage production timelines effectively and work within allocated budgets.
+ Post-Production Input: Provide creative input and feedback during the post-production process, including editing, color correction, and audio mixing, to ensure the final product aligns with the directorial vision.
+ Compliance & Standards: Ensure all productions adhere to network standards, legal regulations, and ethical guidelines.
+ Problem Solving: Proactively identify and resolve potential production issues, both technical and creative.
+ Continuous Improvement: Stay current with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in broadcast television production.
Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Film, Television Production, Communications, or a related field.
+ Minimum of 1-3 years of experience directing live and/or pre-recorded television productions.
+ Proven ability to lead and motivate production teams.
+ Excellent communication, soft skills, and organizational skills.
+ Strong understanding of television production processes and equipment.
+ Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
+ Creative vision and a strong understanding of visual storytelling.
+ Familiarity with ENPS, Expression graphics, Carbonite video switcher, audio mixers and BitCentral video playout are a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Experience TD/directing news broadcasts, digital production, talk shows, and etc.
+ Knowledge of digital workflows and streaming platforms.
+ The ability to be an early riser and function at a high level (we provide endless coffee).
Physical Requirements:
+ Ability to lift and move studio equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
+ Comfortable standing and moving for extended periods during live broadcasts.
