The Production Technician plays a crucial role in the live broadcast environment, ensuring smooth operations and supporting the production team in delivering high-quality news programming. This position involves managing studio logistics, coordinating with talent and crew, and assisting with post-production tasks.
Responsibilities:
+ Serve as the Floor Manager (Stage Manager / Floor Director) during live shows, coordinating talent cues, camera shots, and overall studio flow.
+ Manage studio audio needs, including mic'ing talent and guests, and ensuring optimal audio levels throughout the broadcast.
+ Run pre-set lighting cues to maintain consistent visual quality during the live broadcast.
+ Communicate effectively with segment producers, directors, and other team members regarding guest arrivals and set locations.
+ Assist in post-show tasks, including editing show content for web and linear distribution platforms.
+ Maintain a proactive approach to troubleshooting and resolving technical issues that may arise during broadcasts.
Requirements:
+ Some experience in live television production, preferably in a news or broadcast environment.
+ Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure.
+ Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
+ Proficiency in audio and lighting equipment operation.
+ Familiarity with video editing software and post-production processes is preferred.
+ Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Education and Experience:
+ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Broadcasting, Communications, or a related field is preferred.
+ Previous experience as a floor manager, audio technician, or production assistant in a broadcast setting is advantageous.
Physical Requirements:
+ Ability to lift and move studio equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
+ Comfortable standing and moving for extended periods during live broadcasts.
