    Nights

     

    Night Shift

     

    Job Summary: Responsible for being trained to perform sleep studies.

     

    Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED.

     

    Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: None.

     

    Work Experience: 0 - 6 months medical related experience.

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Effective interpersonal written and oral communication skills.

     

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Sets up and applies sleep disorders monitoring equipment to patient. Performs all types of studies. Completes application to and instruction of patient within 75 minutes of patient's arrival. Sets up equipment per department policy and obtains and documents a pre-test blood pressure reading 100% of the time. Monitors and acquires accurate patient data during each study and makes appropriate adjustments to assure quality testing. Produces a high-quality tracing with minimal artifacts. Titrates CPAP/BiPAP to achieve optimal levels per department policy. Documents and institutes Oxygen therapy as specified in the department policy. Documents all pertinent data relative to the study. Understands and is able to articulate the stages of sleep and recognizes cardiac dysrhythmias. At the close of the study, unhooks patient and performs necessary cleanup tasks each time. Unhooks and escorts patient to the appropriate locations. Assures the cleanliness of patient rooms immediately post- test. Removes equipment and linen to appropriate areas. Resets the room for the next study. Follows OSHA standards. Obtains appropriate patient information and confirms that the appropriate study is being done. Checks and assures that the appropriate documents are complete and accurate. Obtains a patient photo, if necessary. Troubleshoots and remedies patient and equipment problems to assure a safe and accurate study. Recognizes and takes the appropriate action decisively when the patient has an adverse outcome by following the department policy. Maintains BLS certification annually. Removes equipment problems and documents them in an appropriate time frame for the lead technologist.

     

    Decision Making: Independent judgment in making minor decisions where alternatives are limited and standard policies/protocols have been established.

     

    Working Relationships: Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
