Responsibilities:
GENERAL PURPOSE
Primarily responsible for running BRET assays related to the meta tropic glutamate receptor dimerization project in the lab. This will include maintenance of HEK293T cell lines, transfection, cell harvest, and running plate reader assays. Additional responsibilities include lab organization, maintaining plasmids (midipreps) and possibly mutagenesis if necessary. Will assist with overall operation of the laboratory including equipment maintenance, and training of lab personnel. Will design and perform experiments, collect and analyze data, help to manage projects and publish papers. Ability to work in a lab team environment with a diverse group of personnel is essential. Will be supported by NIH/NIMH R01MH125849 from May 2025 to September 2025.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Cell culture harvesting and preparation
+ Work mainly independently.
+ Maintain and transfect HEK293T cells, harvest cells and plate for assays.
+ Interpret data and prepare it for presentations and publications.
+ Keep up to date with advances in concepts and technologies.
Plate reader assays
+ Work in an independent manner with minimal supervision.
+ Run assays to assess pharmacology of mGluRs in the presence of various ligands.
+ Must be adaptable to different experimental needs.
+ Must be willing to appropriately analyze and interpret data and prepare it for presentations and publications.
Research Analysis, Presentation, Searches
+ Prepare literature searches as needed.
+ Analyze and present findings to PI and/or in laboratory meetings.
Training responsibility
+ Helps to interview and trains laboratory personnel and rotating graduate student on laboratory and departmental-shared equipment and laboratory procedures.
+ Perform routine laboratory maintenance and preventive care for all laboratory equipment.
Other job duties and projects as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
+ High School diploma or GED and 1-year experience performing basic sampling, monitoring or research activities, compiling and collecting data and preparing reports required
+ Associate's or BS degree in Biomedical Engineering, Physiology, Biophysics, Neuroscience, Health Science, Biology, Chemistry or other science related field of study required.
+ 1 year of laboratory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
+ Required technical skills include 3D cell culture and live confocal microscopy. Experience with primary cells and transgenic mice required.
