    The Jackson School of International Studies (JSIS) is a leader in advancing the understanding of and engagement in world issues.     The Jackson School of International Studies has an outstanding opportunity for a Program Operations Specialist for Division Three to join their team.

     

    The Program Operations Specialist position is essential for enhancing the visibility, performance, and funding of various centers and programs through effective administration, outreach, and grant management. This role involves supporting multiple programs by ensuring efficient operations, fostering community engagement, and managing financial resources. The Program Operations Specialist will work within a division of the Jackson School of International Studies that includes the following programs and centers (subject to change): the Center for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies, Comparative Religion, the Stroum Center for Jewish Studies, Canadian Studies, and the Center for Human Rights.

     

    **DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** PUBLIC OUTREACH & EVENTS:

    + Create instructional, research, and educational programs that maximize the division’s resources while meeting the stated goals of program grants.

    + Organize workshops for the general public and K-12 and community college educators.

    + Develop and oversee coordination of regular lectures and symposia throughout the year.

    + Collaborate with off-campus community partners on joint activities for public and business outreach events and programs.

    + Attend community events to foster connections between the community and the Jackson School at the University of Washington.

    + Develop and coordinate the publication of all printed and electronic communications.

    + Serve on campus, local, and national boards related to the division's core functions to determine the role in on-campus and off-campus partnerships.ADMINISTRATION:

    + Work with faculty chairs and the associate director to set annual goals and establish benchmarks for the division’s performance.

    + Coordinate communications and manage performance reports and budgets with relevant government agencies.

    + Reconcile grant budgets, gift budgets, and revenue accounts and track monthly expenditures and budget changes.

    + Work with JSIS central services to submit payables for various division activities, including honoraria, reimbursements, travel, and vendor payments.

    + Manage Visiting Faculty and Visiting Scholars Programs, including obtaining J-1 visas and keeping the faculty and scholars apprised of all relevant talks and activities.

    + May work with faculty chairs to identify fundraising goals and new funding opportunities

    + May act as a contact for donors and provide ongoing stewardship for these donors. Identify and work with potential new donors to the Division's Programs for fundraising and increasing the visibility of the Division's Programs and Center's visibility

    + Coordinate student fellowships and awards, including eligibility, rules, timing, funding, paying, and the award process.

    + Recruit, train, and supervise student employees.

    + Work with JSIS-Office of Academic Services to update graduate student handbooks.

    + Work with faculty chairs and the Office of Academic Services to handle program inquiries from prospective and admitted students.

    + Participate in JSIS graduate student orientation.

    + Field general inquiries and provide information to students, staff, program participants, and/or the public regarding program content.GRANT WRITING, REPORTING, AND MANAGEMENT:

    + Work with faculty chairs and the associate director to seek, apply for, and administer grants to fund the division’s activities.

    + Assist associate director in the preparation of Department of Education Title VI grant applications and reports, as needed. **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**

    + Bachelor’s degree in international studies or other related discipline and

    + Two or more years of equivalent work experience in International Studies or business operations. **Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.** **ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**

    + Excellent writing, copy editing, and basic research skills.

    + Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with diverse groups.

    + Outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to establish priorities.

    + Excellent written and oral communication skills, including working effectively with presenters, program participants, and UW faculty and staff.

    + Excellent computer skills with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and desktop publishing, with an aptitude for learning additional software programs as needed.

    + Flexible schedule to allow for occasional attendance at evening and weekend events. **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**

    + Master’s degree in International Studies or other related discipline.

    + Extensive knowledge of one of the following: Jewish Studies, Comparative Religion, Europe, Russia, Eurasia, Canada, or Human Rights. **Application Process:** The application process may include completion of a variety of online assessments to obtain additional information that will be used in the evaluation process.
