    What You Will Do

     

    The Hot Section Engineering (HSE) Mechanical Design discipline is seeking an experienced Senior Manager to lead a team of talented engineers to design and develop the next generation of military jet engines, preferably with gas turbine

     

    Combustor and Diffuser Case hardware experience. In this role, the candidate will be required to work onsite and maintain a US Government Security Clearance at the Secret Level or higher.

     

    This is a technical supervisor position where the candidate will lead the design team administratively and technically and participate as the design lead on the Component Integrated Product Team (CIPT). This associate will be responsible for integration with the CIPT, mating modules, system design group, program office and military customer in execution of design tasks supporting Combustor/Diffuser hardware for Military Engines.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Manage a team of five to eight design engineers. Organize, distribute and oversee team assignments.

    + Support the CIPT in task planning, staffing requirements and coordinating in-house and outsource resources.

    + Coach, train and develop junior & senior design engineers. Provide performance feedback to team members.

    + Foster a team collaboration atmosphere and ensure employees have the necessary tools to execute their work.

    + Cradle-to-grave design support, from preliminary through detailed design, development, validation, certification, manufacturing and operational service.

    + Own and drive design discipline strength through review and approval of design tasks, DSMs and hardware definition. The Design Manager will ensure that all design requirements for the module are met.

    + Provide support for multi-discipline teams to develop design solutions that balance customer requirements for durability, performance, cost and weight.

    + Ensure outsourcing work is completed, reviewed and approved by design associates with appropriate proficiency level.

    + Chair product reviews, document meeting minutes & action items, upload notes into review database and work with team members to ensure closure of reviews in the system.

    + Coordinate with other groups to read across lessons learned, advance technology and improve engineering standard work processes/methods.

    + Ensure proper documentation and communication of results to management and external customers.

    + Utilize standard work and CORE tools to continuously improve the design process.

    + This position may require up to 10% travel.

    + The associate in this position must have exceptional people and problem-solving skills and will be the “go to person” for help solving complex design engineering challenges.

    Qualifications You Must Have:

    + Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)

    + 10 years of experience in engineering or aerospace with a bachelor’s degree, or 7 years with an advanced degree

    + The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.

    + U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

    Qualifications We Prefer:

    + Understanding of hardware, blueprints, dimensions & tolerances, and manufacturing methods.

    + Excellent communication & interpersonal skills and a consistent record of collaboration, innovation, and initiative.

    + Proven leadership and analytical skills.

    + Possess excellent judgment and professional maturity.

    + Prior experience in development hardware design.

    + Prior experience in field & production support.

    + Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail and deadlines.

    + Experience with GD&T ASME Y14.5M 1994 or 2018.

    + Experience with MS Office products.

    + Gas Turbine Combustor and/or Diffuser Case design experience.

    + Proficiency in Teamcenter, Siemens NX, ANSYS, and classical methods of analysis.

    + Experience with Model-Based Design, Manufacture and Inspection (MB-DMI).

    + Understanding of Agile project management principles and experience working within an agile framework.

    + CORE (formerly ACE) tools are also essential for this role.

    Hot Section Engineering (HSE)

     

    Hot Section Engineering is responsible for the design, development, technology maturation and in service support of all diffuser cases, combustors, turbines (vanes, blades, rotors and cases), augmenters (military), nozzles and associated fuel systems for all military, commercial and industrial engine models and radial auxiliary power units.

     

    Technical disciplines in HSE include Project Engineering, Mechanical Design, Structural Analysis, Durability and Product Definition.

     

    What is my role type?

    **Onsite:** Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

     

    Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.

     

    The salary range for this role is 124,000 USD - 250,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.

     

    RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

     

    This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
