This position coordinates the Minnesota Department of Veteran Affairs Sustainability Program for the Agency. Increasing the sustainability of state government agency operations is a priority for the State of Minnesota. The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) is committed to incorporating more sustainable practices, increase renewable energy portfolios, and to generally make more thoughtful choices around its operations that could impact the natural environment. This position will be coordinating these efforts at a statewide enterprise level.
The ability to improve the state’s sustainability efforts relies on the continuous commitment of agencies to ‘operationalize’ sustainability within their respective organizations. This position promotes the MDVA commitment and will focus on greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, fleet fossil fuel reduction, waste reduction, water consumption and sustainable procurement **.**
Minimum Qualifications
The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking considerations for this position:
Must meet ONE of the following requirements and demonstrate ALL of the knowledge, skills and abilities described below:
+ Three years of experience related to administering energy, environmental, and/or sustainability programs within an organization.
OR
+ Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Environmental Science, Architecture or related field, AND two years of experience related to administering energy, environmental, and/or sustainability programs within an organization.
AND
+ Possess a valid class D drivers license.
Applicants who meet the experience/education requirements listed above will be further assessed based on the following:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
+ Sustainability initiatives pertaining to facilities management, construction and/or operations; specific to, greenhouse gas emissions, fleet, energy consumption, water reduction and sustainable procurement.
SKILLS IN:
+ Working with, B3 (Building, Benchmarking and Beyond) software, or similar.
+ Computer skills and knowledge of software applications, such as Microsoft Office and Excel, sufficient to create documents, presentations, reports and spreadsheets.
+ Communication skills sufficient to make presentations to groups; effectively communicate with individuals; and effectively communicate complex business requirements and solutions to both the user and information technology staff.
ABILITY TO:
+ Analyze and interpret large and complex data sets, and use analysis to make sound recommendations for program direction.
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:
+ Project management experience.
+ Knowledge of and experience working with environmental and sustainability issues.
+ Knowledge of and experience with Minnesota B3 program energy reporting.
+ Familiarity with State of Minnesota’s Office of Enterprise Sustainability.

This position requires successful completion of the following:
+ Employment reference checks will be conducted on finalists. This may include a review of documentation related to job performance and contact with the applicant's former employer(s).
+ A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) criminal background check will be conducted on all finalists for this position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check.
+ A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment.
