    The Mechatronics and Sustainable Packaging (MSP) Design for Scale organization oversees the manufacturing of high-quality packaging and robotics systems and gets the right materials to the right place at the right time to enable our automated solutions. It’s a fast-paced operation that works cross-functionally with teams across Amazon globally, and is driven by data and performance indicators. We are seeking a talented and motivated Senior Manager, Advanced Manufacturing Hardware Engineer who is capable of operating in a fast paced, dynamic, multi-platform international manufacturing and production environment. This role manages a team of Advanced Manufacturing Engineers that work closely with our ODMs, CMs, internal MSP mechatronics development teams. They also engage with upstream suppliers to improve the quality, manufacturability, and cost of MSP products both proactively in the design phase as well throughout the entire product life-cycle. This role requires setting strategy and managing the tactical execution of a technical operations team that plans and delivers the manufacturing launch and resolution of process issues for complex mechatronics solutions. You will be the driver to get production up and running, direct your team to root cause hardware failures, resolving gaps in our suppliers manufacturing processes, and continuous improvement throughout the product lifecycle. You will accomplish this by working cross functionally with design engineering, quality, and supply chain and contract manufacturing partners to deliver products on schedule, at a high-quality level, and with the lowest total cost.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Lead a team to effectively and efficiently deliver scaled manufacturing of complex mechatronics solutions

    • Collaborate cross functionally with leaders of product management, quality, test, mechanical, electrical, control systems, to create and manage a high-performance product team focused on program success

    • An ideal candidate has experience with the development and integration hardware/software

    • Drive effective teamwork, communication, collaboration and commitment across multiple disparate groups with competing priorities

    • Manage, measure, and improve manufacturing process capability and quality at CM, ODM and suppliers

    • Develop and improve organizational processes to optimize the launch of new products and scale production

    • Provide On-Site support to new product launches

    • Design in manufacturability (DFx) on new designs of complex mechatronics products

    • Root cause customer impacting issues and drive resolution

    • Collaborate with development, supply chain, and operations teams to identify, manage and reduce risks on supply, process, and manufacturing of parts, sub-assemblies, and top-level assemblies

    • Bridge the gap with OEM partners by supporting development builds and production.

    • Support cost reduction and sustaining activities.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or another related technical field

    • 15+ years experience in hardware development across full product life cycles from concept development to scaled manufacturing and sustaining engineering

    • 10+ years of direct people leadership experience

    • Experience in product development

    • Experience in lean manufacturing implementation

    • Experience leading conceptualization, design, assemble, and debugging tools and fixtures

    • Experience reducing cycle time and improving labor efficiency

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Masters of Science and/or MBA

    • 7+ years experience leading interdisciplinary discussions between Hardware, Reliability, Firmware, Software, Industrial design and Product management teams to define and drive scope and clarity of work

    • Diverse experience across multiple roles within the electronics manufacturing and product development environment

    • Proven experience in launching hardware from concept to production. Ability to manage schedule of end of life dependencies along with product obsolescence and sustaining current product in the field

    • Experience with SMT, PCBA, metal fabrication, weldments, machining, controls systems

    • Six Sigma black belt or strong application experience with Lean Six Sigma

    • Experience with mechatronics, robotics, and scaled manufacturing
