**Required Qualifications:** Per Civil Service Standards and Specifications. Must have taken and passed the required Plant Utilities Engineer II State Civil Service exam and be reachable on the appropriate current Civil Service list. The Civil Service list for this position might provide insufficient acceptors, therefore, a provisional appointment may be made. Any provisional appointee will be required to take, pass and be reachable on the next Civil Service examination to be permanently appointed. To be considered for Provisional appointment must have One year of permanent service as a Plant Utilities Engineer 1. 70.1 Transfers are encouraged to apply. 70.1 Transfer Candidates must have been appointed from a Civil Service List and have served permanently in an appropriate title(s) for one year. Transfers must be within two salary grades. Ability to climb, bend, stoop and to do moderately heavy lifting. Must have the ability to work in confined spaces and from a ladder, scaffolding or man lift over ten feet in height. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver’s License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. **(***Out-of-State Applicants, see "Special Notes”).** Must successfully pass a pulmonary function test to be certified to wear protective equipment (i.e. respirators). The tests shall be provided by the Campus Utilities Department.
**Preferred Qualifications:** High School Diploma/GED; Technical School.
**Brief Description of Duties:** The Plant Utilities Engineer II supervises Plant Utilities Engineers I and others engaged in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repairing, testing, and calibration of mechanical and electrical distribution in the most efficient and safest way possible. This position will be responsible for the Building Management systems (BMS). Plant Utilities Engineer II are working Supervisors and as such, perform any task in the Plant Utilities Engineer trade.
+ Performs troubleshooting of building automation systems; by reading and interpreting control logic diagrams, wiring schematics and creating custom reports for all HVAC Equipment for Campus Operations. Repairs and performs preventive maintenance on all HVAC equipment, including pumps, fans, AHU’s, zone stats, VAV/Reheat boxes, electrical/electronic controls. Performs troubleshooting of building automation systems networking infrastructure.
+ Provide staff supervision for departmental work schedules and assignments, including but not limited to: reviewing daily work orders, ongoing preventive maintenance programs, upkeep and repair of equipment for mechanical and electrical systems. Purchase equipment and supplies and maintain parts inventory.
+ Operate, repair and perform maintenance on all HVAC and other mechanical equipment, including but not limited to: pumps, fans, motors, pneumatic and electrical/electronic controls, pressure-reducing valves, compressors, chemical testing and treatment, hydronic heat exchangers, boilers, chillers, and maintain equipment logs.
+ Observe and inspect work while in progress and upon completion. Ensure the proper use of materials, workmanship, and safety regulations are carried out and relevant codes are followed. Ensure schedules are met and that work is performed according to requirements.
+ Respond to calls, both on and off shift hours. Evaluate, troubleshoot, and effectively repair all mechanical, electrical and plumbing issues anywhere on University property.
+ Maintain written procedures and required records of plant operational activities, including but not limited to: energy consumption, equipment malfunction, meter and gauge readings, and preventive maintenance.
+ Prepare standard written evaluations of subordinate employee work performance.
+ Prepare, review, and sign employees' timesheets.
+ Handle as required, various types of hazardous materials, including but not limited to: refrigerants, Freon, fuel oil, antifreeze, solvents, caustic soda, etc.
+ Work in confined spaces and other hazardous situations utilizing proper personal protective equipment and supervise others working in the same type of conditions.
+ Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
**Special Notes:** This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference. SG 16 Hiring Rate $63,136. This position includes location pay of $4,000 per year.
