A role in Buying means working with several diverse vendors to choose the best product mix, both in-store and online. We help determine where to localize, while calibrating market positioning and acting as brand managers. Here, you’ll own a wide SKU count so that your work is varied and challenging. Through cross-functional collaboration, instinct and creativity, you will be the expert on the guest, the market and the competition.
A **Merch Buying Director** helps create omni-channel growth by planning profitable and locally relevant assortments using your grasp of guest shopping behavior, assortment requirements and competitors. You will influence and negotiate with vendors to achieve results and identify gaps and opportunities. Your flexibility in reacting to business results and your ability to translate financial metrics and data into actionable strategies will be critical. You will lead cross-functional teams to drive category results while managing progress toward sales and margin goals. Your partnerships with product designers and/or category mangers and vendors will help guide product development as you source appropriately for your category. You will lead Associate Buyers and Senior Merchandise Specialists; and interact with the Pricing and Promotion Center of
Excellence, Planning, Site Merchandising, the Item Center of Excellence and many other expert partners in support of your promotional planning work across channels.

Create and implement an enterprise strategy to drive outsized growth in Affordable Refresh Décor (categories such as Decorative Accessories, Home Fragrance, Toss Pillows/Throw Blankets)
Develop and execute a strategy and roadmap in support of division goals and objectives for a complex omni-channel business, including developing new ways of market to drive increased newness/speed to market and relevance in the digital channel
Partner with category buyers within this space to strategically grow key product categories across our owned brand portfolio, national brands/partnerships and emerging brands/market goods
Utilize customer and market research as well as competitive analysis to identify trends, new product opportunities and initiatives to drive the business.
Lead, partner, motivate and inspire cross-functional teams to co-create strategies and recommendations to deliver company goals and initiatives.
Develop strong working relationships with the design, tech design, vendors, sourcing teams and other business experts to create and develop product assortments that adhere to our brand values, address market trends and bring joy to our guest.
Lead, motivate, coach and inspire Associate Buyers and Merchandise Specialists while providing hands-on apprenticeship.
Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
+ 8+ years of Merchandising experience
+ Curiosity, flexibility, resiliency, and a champion for learning; comfortable working in “grey areas” that are constantly changing
+ Committed to developing a high-performing, diverse and inclusive team
+ Passionate about product, trend, brand and the Target guest
+ Entrepreneurial spirit with strong analytical, decision-making, and organization skills
+ A performance-driven individual who demonstrates strong initiative and has superior leadership skills

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
