    Budget Title: Senior Staff Associate (SL-5)

     

    Salary: $80,000 - $90,000

     

    The Director, Promise Scholars Initiative, reporting directly to the Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is responsible for leading and managing this newly designed retention initiative. The director stays abreast of research and best practices regarding theoretical and practical approaches to collegiate attrition, retention, and leadership perspectives, with a focus on retention, graduation, and post-graduation strategies. The incoming director will use data-driven, research-based decision-making and a strengths-based model approach to student success, and facilitate collaborations across campus to provide programs and services that proactively empower students to succeed and support the University's goals of increasing retention, graduation, participation in high-impact practices, career outcomes, and wellbeing.

     

    The director will work closely with the division's director, Intercultural Affairs; Student Affairs, Director, Student Transition and Success; Director, Educational Opportunity Program, and other university constituencies to build close collaborations with campus partners across divisions, including University Tutorial Services, Academic Affairs and advising offices, financial aid, Admissions, New Student Programs, and others. The director will also help support the vice president (division) in related work as needed.

    Responsibilities:

    + The director will be responsible for envisioning, designing, and executing the cohort three-year-plus model initiative from conception to implementation, including program development, planning, establishing strategy, initiatives, and programmatic goals and objectives, and assessment measures.

    + Consult with the Office of Institutional Research; Director, Intercultural Affairs, Director, Student Transition and Success, Director, Educational Opportunity Program; and others across campus to develop longitudinal and track key performance indicators to improve performance outcomes and adjust as needed, collect, analyze, and report data, and identify key performance indicators for continuous improvement (without duplicating services).

    + Works cooperatively with colleges and departments on programs that support undergraduates, including student transition and success, including University Tutorial Services, Academic Affairs, and academic advising offices, financial aid, Admissions, New Student Programs, and others, to include developing a pipeline for graduate school.

    + Serves as a point of contact and provides coaching on a walk-in or appointment basis, and makes referrals to the Student Transition and Success Office or other appropriate campus resources, school advising offices, academic departments, Fleishman Career Center, CARE Team, and other resources as necessary, and provides relevant presentations to students.

    + Develops, oversees, and assesses programs and services that are informed by best practices in higher education to improve retention and graduation rates and empower undergraduates to succeed academically.

    + Teach one FYE course per academic year; conduct presentations and workshops to internal/external partners.

    + Serves on University committees as appropriate.

    + Occasional evening, night, or weekend work required.

     

    This is an on-campus position.

    Job Requirements:

    + Master's degree, and significant demonstrated progressively responsible experience

    + Knowledgeable of, and practitioner of, strength-based approaches in student attrition and retention, success coaching, analytics, student programming, and/or leadership programs

    + Previous teaching experience

    + Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, including public speaking

    + Ability to multitask and work cooperatively and effectively with others; to build relationships

    + Excellent leadership and supervisory skills

    + Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

    + Effective project management and analytical and problem-solving skills

    + Strong leadership skills with the ability to attract, motivate, coach, and successfully navigate a diverse and inclusive work environment

    + Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications

    Preferred:

    + Ph.D./Ed.D. in higher education, social psychology, counseling, social work, or related field (or work experience with demonstrated experience)

    + Experience leading a similar cohort-based program, or previous experience in student affairs /academic affairs to include program development; demonstrated experience in meeting the needs of college students from a variety of backgrounds, including first-generation college students; experience within the areas of student advisement, success coaching, and leadership programs

    + Ability to interpret and analyze data and make data-driven, data-informed decisions

    + Previously demonstrated experience with academic advising/intrusive counseling
