The Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections is now hiring for a full-timeTraining Specialistto fill our vacant role at our Lewiston facility. This is a challenging and exciting opportunity if you are detail oriented, enjoy training, have initiative, enjoy directing your own work, possess exceptional organizational skills and like working, coordinating, and collaborating with others. Your responsibilities will afford you the opportunity to work with facility leadership andstaffas well as the Facility Training Coordinators from the other two Corrections Centers.
This position is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, evaluating, and coordinating all training-related functions at DJC. The incumbent in this role will act as a liaison between facilities, districts, headquarters, and POST Training/Certification.
Responsibilities:
1. Behavior Standards:

2. Coordination and Administration of Training:
+ Manage Training budgets as assigned;
+ Coordinates the scheduling of facility and POST related training programs with facility leadership or training committee.
+ Develop facility’s training schedule and update facility training calendar to include scheduling the instructors for the training.
+ Compile training status information and TrainCaster reports for managers to assist with training needs and present information at facility planning or leadership meetings.
+ Work with supervisors to plan class schedules and schedule individual participants to meet training requirements.
+ Send out notifications to participants of time, date, and location for required training.
+ Schedule qualified trainers, reserve and prepare classroom for training, and ensure materials (course materials, supplies, feedback, rosters, and certificates) are prepared and available for each course.
+ Assess and evaluate training requirement trends and make recommendations on training needs and schedule trainings accordingly.
+ Ensure an adequate number of trainers are available to teach each course, obtain approval if certifications or other costs are involved, and to facility leadership on areas with instructor needs.
+ Maintain training documentation, facility resource library and materials, including IDJC POST curriculum binders, and order replacement items as needed.
+ Obtain training requests, ensure appropriate documentation (signatures, funding source cost center, justifications, timeframes, etc.);
+ Act as point of contact for facility, HQ and district training requests and/or issues as assigned;
+ Input all training rosters in TrainCaster by creating class sessions complete with dates and times, ensuring participants are enrolled in the sessions and attendance is set within TrainCaster to ensure trainer and participant information is appropriately documented for training records and retention per the agency schedule.
+ Coordinate application process for POST academies and full two and a half week academies with IDJC POST Training Coordinator.
+ Coordinate paperwork process associated with POST academies including employee completion of Initial POST Employment Forms and work with HR on necessary background checks such as fingerprints.
+ Ensure POST Application Packet is complete upon submission to POST;
+ Ensure new employees obtain POST certification within one year of hire as stated in POST IDAPA Rules (11.11.01), and coordinate with HR on extensions as needed for those that are not able to meet the timeline.
+ Ensure IDJC POST physicals, vision and hearing exams are completed prior to submission of the POST application and assist with the related documentation for employee reimbursement.
+ Work with IDJC Direct Care staff and subject matter experts to recruit and support them in earning POST General Topics and High Liability Endorsed Instructor Certifications. Assist staff with completing all POST required steps for POST Instructor certifications
3. Training/Instruction and Evaluation:
+ Obtain and maintain POST Instructor certification
+ Assess training needs and objectives;
+ Research training;
+ Develop training courses and materials to meet staff and facility standard and needs;
+ Provide in-facility training as needed for courses such as CPR, First Aid, Effective-De-escalation, PREA, Suicide Prevention, Mechanical Restraints, Pay Down Searches, POST curriculum; and high liability courses such as ARCON training.
+ Provide training at POST academies as required.
+ Co-train IDJC POST training to ensure IDJC POST Instructors meet necessary requirements and timelines for Instructor Certification.
+ Ensure proper documentation on trainer certifications is maintained in training records (TrainCaster) and working files.
+ Monitor and evaluation instructors and courses to ensure compliance with established standards.
4. Other Duties as Assigned:
+ Review, revise, write and explain policies and procedures as necessary
+ Serve on committees as assigned;
+ Research, compile, analyze and/or complete specialized projects related to training as assigned.
+ Work with all IDJC staff including Education, Maintenance, Kitchen, Support Staff, Direct Care, Juvenile Service Coordinators ,Human Resources, Fiscal, Quality Improvement, Clinical, Nursing, Recreation Coordinator, Community Outreach Programs, and IDJC Leadership to help develop training plans and opportunities that supports career growth and staff development.
+ Schedule and coordinate with outside instructor trainers, negotiate contract details, and secure offsite venues to hot trainings.
+ Maintain and update training equipmen t.
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Must have a current or previous POST Instructor certification or have a minimum of three (3) years of law enforcement experience. (11.11.01.121) – Rules of the Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training Council)
Good knowledge of:
+ Training theory.
Experience:
+ Performing needs assessments, developing training objectives, designing and developing coursework and evaluating the training;
+ Presenting training to adult groups in structured learning situations;
+ Using a variety of training methods.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience
+ Using MS Office to include: PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
+ Using display and sound systems for training purposes
+ Facilitating small/large group presentations that require public speaking
+ Use of training software such as TrainCaster, Articulate, and the LUMA training platform
