    Measures lung capacity and analyzes blood samples using a blood gas analyzer.

     

    Delivers and assesses response to ordered therapy per plan of care. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.

     

    Evaluates respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research, and best practices.

     

    Responds to codes and calls for emergent assistance. Assesses patient condition and delivers appropriate treatment.

     

    Educates the patient and family about the patient's illness and provides information about community support groups and other resources.

     

    Monitors, receives, stocks, and distributes respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders.

     

    Maintains storage areas with required supply levels and equipment.

     

    Disassembles, cleans, and sterilizes equipment, and performs preventative maintenance and calibration of machines.

     

    Oversees orders and charge entry for accuracy and timeliness

     

    Responsible for ordering of equipment within the department and presents cost analysis and product use reports to director.

     

    Provides unit and job-specific orientation to new respiratory care staff; identifies needed competencies, develops assessment tools, and verifies competency of RT staff.

     

    Assists in the management of department policies and procedures as content expert.

     

    Assists the director in completion of payroll activities.

     

    Writes and posts work schedule; arranges with PRN staff to cover shifts as needed.

     

    Verifies proper operation of all equipment placed in service and maintains working knowledge of all equipment used.

    Minimum Education

    Requires valid completion certificate from a Respiratory Therapy Training program. Associate's degree preferred.

    Required Skills

    Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

     

    Previous experience preferred.

     

    Certifications

     

    Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) current upon hire.

     

    Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS/ENPC) and Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) within six (6) months of hire.

     

    New hires will have ninety (90) days from date of hire to obtain American Heart Association certifications.
