    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Benefits Counselor serves as a primary point of contact for employees and retirees, delivering high-quality support and accurate information related to Marathon Petroleum’s health and welfare benefit programs. The successful candidate will utilize Workday for benefit enrollments, respond to inquiries, resolve basic issues, and escalate complex matters as needed—ensuring compliance with established policies. This role supports key initiatives such as annual enrollment, benefit communications, and presentations, while also leading assigned benefit processes and identifying opportunities for improvement. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to exceptional service are essential for success in this position.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Answers basic employee and retiree benefits inquiries independently via phone calls and Workday cases; works to resolve basic benefit issues, escalating inquiries to internal benefits administration personnel and external vendors as appropriate.

    + Adheres to benefit administrative processes and procedures; assists with routine benefit policy interpretation, including preparing recommendations, along with supporting information, for handling administrative appeals.

    + Meets established customer service and productivity target levels.

    + Utilizes basic understanding of HR system functionality and capabilities for the administration of employee benefit enrollment/change requests.

    + Delivers presentations to various audiences on benefits topics.

    + Participates in the execution of benefits annual enrollment.

    + Leads assigned benefit processes and suggests opportunities for process improvements.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    + Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Human Resources, Business, or related field.

    + Zero (0) to Two (2) years of relevant work experience required.
