    The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.

     

    The Ground Systems Support (GSS) organization is looking for a Technical Integrator for the Launch Equipment Shop (LES) who supports multiple programs for National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA). The candidate will provide technical planning and coordination for mechanical and fluid systems for new fabrications, and repairs or modifications to existing hardware. A background in electrical component repair, manufacturing, fabrication, assembly, and production planning is required.

    Responsibilities

    Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

    + Provide advanced communication and possess interpersonal skills to effectively communicate work requirements, status, resolve technical issues, and assist in troubleshooting and identifying solutions to ensure continuation of work to meet demanding schedules.

    + Interface, coordinate and communicate effectively with technicians, engineers, flow/project managers, work control and management to provide technical planning assistance prior to the manufacturing, repair, or modification processes.

    + Understanding and interpretation of required procedures, standards, drawings, and testing requirements for the metal (sheet metal, machine shop, welding, paint, and maintenance) or pneumatic shops, process instructions, and operational requirements based on the functional workload and requirements for work execution.

    + Provide efficient coordination and technical planning of work requests to include reviews of technical activities including man-hour requirements, durations, identifying and ordering materials to kit for work requirements, analyzing hazards and safety information, identifying special tooling, outages, support, and any other activities in preparation for work execution.

    + Provide technical planning support of manufacturing responsibilities through collaboration with a team of technicians, shop management, support organizations, design engineering and project management to ensure timely execution of planned and scheduled work to meet program critical milestones in a safe manner.

    + Coordinate with Work Management to properly identify priorities to ensure effective planning to enable timely work instruction development to support scheduled work based on priority.

    + Coordinate and integrate with other support organization to ensure resources and support required are identified and scheduled accordingly to enable timely execution of scheduled activities.

    + Collaborate with Design Engineering, Logistics, Quality Assurance, Configuration Management and Work Management to ensure identification of all technical details required to support development of work plans which enables timely and efficient execution and delivery of quality products.

    + Actively participate in daily scheduling meetings to understand work priorities, resolve technical planning issues, and to continuously learn and enhance technical planning for the electrical cables and enclosures.

    + Provide quick identification, resolution, and communication to work management regarding any challenges identified during technical planning to eliminate risks to work execution.

    + Lead and participate in planning walkdowns to identify all requirements and constraints for job execution.

    + Provide technical planning requirements to WAD Authors to ensure safe execution of work, including but not limited to ensuring safety risks incorporated into work instructions and communicated to shop management to ensure appropriately trained technicians are assigned for execution and appropriate PPE is available.

    + Provide detailed understanding of technical documentation for responsible area (including but not limited to desk instructions, technical documents, requirements documentation, Operating Procedures, etc.).

    + Provide detailed reviews of work instructions for completeness and collaborate with engineering on technical planning details and work execution.

    + Maintain safety, quality, and good housekeeping standards in all areas of responsibility. Build strong relationships based on trust, integrity, and keeping commitments.

    + Collaborates with other internal and external Shop Managers, Engineers, Work Management, Project Managers, and other support organization to maximize the value of integration and continuous improvement across the enterprise.

    + Supports management in the performance of functional analysis and critical thinking to identify areas for improvement, recommends corrective actions, potential training, and IT improvements.

    + Assist in the execution of directorate goals and objectives through innovative operational and tactical execution techniques.

    + Perform other duties as assigned.

     

    Qualifications - External

     

    High School Diploma or equivalent; four years related experience.

    + Excellent communication, presentation, and customer interface skills with a proven ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment as required to coordinate and technically plan work activities including interorganizational support.

    + Experience working with union represented employees and an understanding of Collective Bargaining agreements, is highly desirable.

    + Ability to lead multiple projects and priorities across the areas of responsibility.

    + Technically and mechanically inclined with experience in mechanical or fluid system and/or component fabrication, repair, assembly, or manufacturing and demonstrate the ability to understand the execution of the work to maximize the efficiency of the crews and their activities.

    + Experience in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Quality Management Systems (QMS), Inventory Management software, and Product Life Cycle management (PLM) Systems highly desired.

    + Experience in KSC and Manufacturing Industry standards is highly desired.

    + Electrical/Mechanical/Pneumatics background is desirable with respect to understanding the aspects of the flight hardware, flight support equipment, and ground support equipment.

    + Must be able to read, follow and develop detailed work instructions, interpret engineer drawings/schematics, follow, and enforce strict work area rules and safety protocols.

    + Must be able coordinate work between multiple disciplines in the fabrication process to ensure planning that supports the continuation of work across crafts.

    + Capable of leading and performing complex assignments without direct management involvement.

    + Must be able to travel to support position requirements.

    Essential Functions

    Physical Requirements

    + Will be required to climb stairs to access equipment for troubleshooting.

    + Climbing ladders and platforms will be necessary.

    + Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection and other associated personal protective equipment.

    + Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.

    + Physical requirements are sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.

    + Must be able to work in tight confined space areas.

    Work Environment

    + All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards.

    + Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex.

    + Position requires daily individual to travel to different areas on site.

    + Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility.

    Equipment and Machines

    + Cranes and other heavy equipment such as crane carriers, Hi-Rangers, man lift platforms, hydraulic lifts, spider staging, converter dollies, cargo lift trailers, and tractor/trailers.

    + Operate computer terminals, personal computers, and related computer peripheral equipment to maintain/adjust database logs and records, print documents and record work performance.

    + Personal computer, scanner, copy machine, telephone, laser printer, fax machine, and other office equipment including desk supplies.

    Attendance

    + Work assignments are normally 8 hours shifts, 5 consecutive days per week.

    + Must be dependable and punctual.

    + Occasional overtime, sometimes with short notice, is required to meet demanding schedule

    Other Essential Functions

    + If offered a position, proof of U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident/Green Card holder of the United States is required.

    + Needs to have clear, concise, and accurate communication skills.

    + Must have ability to work well with office staff and customer representatives.

    + Government security clearance may be required in the future.

    + Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can be made for POV, if necessary.

    + Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.

    + Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relations with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.

    + Must pass a federal background investigation.

    + Must comply with all “drug free workplace” requirements as mandated by directives issued by the appropriate federal contracting officer and the company, which requires drug testing for use of illegal drugs by employees in sensitive positions.
