    How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region:

    TheSeniorEquity Consultant supports the Enterprise Equity Senior Manager and Director, Office of Equity and Equal Opportunity (OEEO) in implementing the Council's Equity, Diversity, and Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity (AA/EO) objectives and initiatives across all five divisions of the Council. They also support Council-wide planning and policy analysis that form the strategic priorities and goals of the Council regarding equity implementation. In addition, the Senior Equity Consultant assists in the development and implementation of current and emerging Council equity initiatives and special projects.

     

    What you would do in this job

     

    The Senior Equity Consultant will provide accurate, objective, timely and useful communication, research and analysis, as well as identify and evaluate creative solutions to internal and external Council operations that improve the Council's goals of achieving equitable outcomes.

     

    + Provide senior level technical expertise and guidance on equity principles throughout the Council’s five divisions and as a member of the Equity Implementation Unit.

    + Serve as an experienced senior level subject matter expert to the Council on issues that impact the region and organization, and cause disparities.

    + Provide program management and full support to the Council's Employee Resource Groups and leaders.

    + Design curriculum and programming for the summer internship programs, Met Scholars, and Ability Internship.

    + Recruit, interview, and choose candidates for internship program and Equity Advisory Committee.

    + Provide full committee and meeting support, and serve as liaison to the Council’s Equity Advisory Committee.

    + Design, plan, and execute affirmative action themed biannual leadership forum for Council's front line staff, middle managers, and executive leaders.

    + Research, track, measure, and prepare narrative and statistical reports, correspondence, and other material on existing inequities and outcomes of equity strategies.

    + Convene, facilitate, and participate on internal and external teams regarding equity initiatives.

    + Prepare and deliver presentations and workshops.

    + Support review and update of strategies, policies, and procedures for Council-wide implementation.

     

    What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)

    Any of the following combinations in completed education (degree field of study in public administration, public policy, sociology, ethnic and multicultural studies, human resources, or related field ) and experience (in strategy development, equity policy creation, diversity and equity change management, or creating alliance in public sector work ):

    + Associate degree with six or more years of experience

    + Bachelor's degree with four or more years of experience

    + Master's or higher degree with two or more years of experience

    What additional skills and experience would be helpful in this job (desired qualifications):

    + Current or recent technical experience (within the last three years) in affirmative action, equity, public policy, or policy analysis

    + Current or recent experience supporting a community committee

    + Employee Resource Group program management and oversight experience

    + Project management or program management experience

    + Experience creating learning programs for formal leaders at every level, including front line staff, middle managers, and executive leaders

    + Experience conducting public forum meetings and community engagement

    + Current or recent experience working with communities, non-profit organizations, and other public-sector agencies building relationships with direct involvement in equity, diversity, inclusion, access, and racial justice

    + Capacity Building experience

    + Experience working with various levels of leadership

    What knowledge, skills and abilities you should have within the first six months on the job:

    + Knowledge of equity principles and practices, including goal setting, equity program development, implementation, and evaluation to provide technical assistance.

    + Knowledge of education and training concepts and transformative techniques related to equity.

    + Senior level skills in project coordination and project management.

    + Skill in development of policy, procedure, and process with an equity lens.

    + Skill in effectively conducting public forum meetings and community engagement.

    + Skill in communicating effectively with management and employees in oral and written form.

    + Skill in using computer technology and data analysis programs.

    + Skill in developing and applying creative solutions for problem-solving and creating opportunities.

    + Ability to organize and prepare narrative and statistical reports with complex information.

    + Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships.

    + Ability to operate effectively under rapidly changing circumstances.

    + Ability to interactively engage with community and staff of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

    You must have the ability to work flexible hours with some evening and/or weekend hours. Work is generally performed in a standard office setting. Some audits/investigations may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions. You may travel between the primary work site to other sites.
