    A Brief Overview

     

    The Closing Officer is responsible for the coordination, monitoring and closing of commercial transactions including those involving real estate collateral, SBA Guarantee or other secured transactions assigned ensuring compliance with Bank’s Credit Policies and approval terms and conditions, in a timely and efficient manner, with zero exceptions. This position works closely and has direct contact with Business Relationship Officers, Third Party Service Providers, and customers to obtain documentation and information needed for commercial loan closings.

     

    What You’ll Need to Succeed

     

    + Manage all aspects of the loan closing process from the assignment to its post-closing.

    + Review and analyze the Credit Approval Memorandum (CAM) to determine the scope of the closing documents that will be needed to have a perfected security interest over the collateral taken.

    + Collects and prepares the documentation needed to complete the credit and collateral file. In addition, review collateral documentation to detect any possible exceptions and/or loss in value. Obtains approval prior to closing for exceptions that cannot be cured prior to closing. Make sure that any approved exception is included in the Units tickler system for proper follow up.

    + Selects/Coordinates the selection and engagement of third-party service providers from the Bank’s approved lists, for the following services: Title Search, Plot Plan, Title Insurance, Flood Search, Environmental Engineers, Attorneys, etc.

    + Review the legal documentation. Verifies all documents and assures that approval terms and conditions are included. Prepares and circulates the Loan Settlement Sheet, along with loan closing documentation.

    + Coordinate closing dates with related parties (borrowers, attorneys, and third-party vendors). Assures documentation needed by bank operations is available for entries and checks needed. Once the closing is finalized, obtains complete collateral documentation from the Closing Attorney.

    + Responsible for the creation of tickler entries in the OnBase system. Assure entries are performed for every case handled in the Commercial Closing Unit as part of the post-closing stage.

    + Ensure that all required loan closing documents that are obtained pre- and post-closing are appropriately filed and maintained for safekeeping in OnBase.

    + Prepares Collateral Inventory with details of the complete collateral documentation applicable to the loan and forwards it to Collateral Unit.

    + Assure compliance with the Bank’s policies, practices, and regulatory requirements.

    + Other tasks as needed and assigned.

    + Assists management in special projects.

    + Provides weekly status of transactions assigned, to update the Unit’s pipeline.

    + Strong communication skills, both written and verbal – English and Spanish.

    + Self-directed and self-motivated with an ability to work in a fast paced, environment and efficiently manage a pipeline of credit requests and risk management tasks.

    + Strong problem recognition and resolution skills.

    + Open, accessible communication style.

    + Must be a cooperative team player.

    + Superior customer service, organization, and accuracy.

    + Proficient in the use of software including Word, Excel, etc., in addition to internal bank systems.

    + Understands the local legal, regulatory, tax and compliance issues relating to risk.

    What You’ll Need:

    + Bachelor’s degree in business is required for this position.

    + (3) three to (5) five years of experience in a similar position within the Banking Industry. This experience must include at least: Banking Laws and Regulations, Collateral and Documentation Strong analytical and Interpersonal skills.

    + Knowledgeable in commercial lending and portfolio relationship management.
