Discover Impactful Work:
Under the direction of the Supervisor, Packaging Engineering, the Engineer III, Packaging/Labeling will work as a member of the SUD Network Engineering team supporting a global business with sites in North America, Europe, and Asia, and will work within existing packaging engineering frameworks and project management systems to deliver on impactful projects. The individual will lead out in implementing and supporting improvements to drive packaging quality and process efficiency across all business units within the ThermoFisher Single Use Division (SUD) as well as support new product introduction (NPI) projects to specify, design, and qualify new packaging systems and processes. The engineer will also support the quality group in timely resolution of corrective actions (CAPAs), including design updates, confirmation testing, and specification updates. The individual may also lead the re-qualification of existing packaging systems as opportunities for improvements are identified.
A Day in the Life:
+ Collaborate with R&D colleagues by designing and qualifying packaging systems for new product initiatives (NPIs)
+ Collaborate with operations colleagues by completing cost savings projects and/or quality improvement projects related to packaging
+ Identify, assess, and implement packaging design, sustainability and process improvement opportunities on existing tertiary, secondary, and primary level packaging systems
+ Support CAPA investigations and root cause analysis activities as they relate to packaging within the business
+ Leverage existing packaging supplier networks and assist in qualifying new packaging suppliers to support business objectives
+ Build and maintain packaging specifications, test plans, procedures, and reports
+ Continually learn and apply lessons learned through project execution and understanding of new industry technologies. Experience growth in your role as you set and deliver on personal development goals

Keys to Success:
Education and Experience
+ Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field required (Packaging Science or Mechanical Engineering preferred) with 5 years proven experience.
+ OR, Master’s degree in the same with 3 years experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
+ Shown ability to solve packaging challenges using systematic methods.
+ Comfortable designing and implementing packaging systems using packaging materials such as corrugated board, foams, wood crates, polymers, adhesives, and films.
+ Experience in technical writing including engineering protocols and reports as well as development and implementation of manufacturing process documentation.
+ Experience with packaging test methods and equipment including ISTA and ASTM packaging test standards.
+ Familiarity with sterilization processes such as gamma beam, VHP, and autoclave a plus.
+ Experience working in an FDA regulated manufacturing environment.
+ Experienced with CAD design programs such as Solidworks and ArtiosCAD.
+ A track record of alignment to highly visible project schedules and budgets.
+ Self-motivated with good problem solving, communication, and organizational skills.
