    Job Summary

    Under the direction of the Senior Application Engineers, this role is a product technical leadership role which supports sales, engineering, manufacturing and field services by providing commercial and technical product expertise related to low and medium voltage power distribution equipment, E-houses and control systems. This role will support the sales product applications, new product development and design standards of electrical control systems for safe, effective, and efficient operation of States Mfg. products and processes while meeting and exceeding company quality and production standards and customer documentation and delivery requirements.

     

    Job Duties and Responsibilities

     

    Application Engineer – LV/MV Switchgear Systems

     

    We are seeking an experienced Application Engineer with 5+ years in designing and supporting low- and medium-voltage (LV/MV) switchgear, switchboards, and panelboard assemblies. This role requires cross-functional collaboration across engineering, sales, manufacturing, and field service to ensure designs meet customer requirements, adhere to industry codes (UL, NEC), and are delivered on time and within budget.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Design and develop electrical and mechanical control systems for custom and standard LV/MV products, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, codes, and customer specs.

    + Evaluate and select components, develop sequences of operation, and participate in design reviews, kickoffs, and readiness checks.

    + Review sales agreements and specifications; guide teams across sales, production, and service to align deliverables with customer expectations.

    + Improve design processes through standardization, tooling, and systems that enhance quality, safety, cost-efficiency, and delivery timelines.

    + Support new product development by researching technologies, participating in post-project reviews, and advising on design integration.

    + Mentor engineering staff and sales teams by creating documentation, providing technical leadership during quoting, and reviewing project scopes and compliance.

    + Assist in manufacturing, assembly, and field service with technical troubleshooting and continuous improvement feedback loops.

    + Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and provide occasional onsite customer/supplier support (up to 10% regional travel).

    Required Qualifications

    + 5+ years in electrical/mechanical engineering and technical leadership in electrical power and controls industry.

    + Able to Lead and enforce design compliance to customer orders, company standards and product development initiatives for multi-phase and DC switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, LV and MV equipment.

    + Strong working knowledge of UL, NEC, and relevant codes/standards.

    + Experience with AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks PDM, and Microsoft Office suite.

    + Proven ability to manage engineering deliverables across multi-disciplinary teams.

    + Skilled in technical problem-solving, documentation, and communication.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + BS in Engineering or equivalent experience.

    + Background in energy storage, renewables, or data center systems.

    + Familiarity with both software and hardware aspects of power system controls.

    + Experience in quoting, compliance matrices, and commercial technical support.

    + Support new product development by researching technologies, participating in post-project reviews, and advising on design integration.

    + Mentor engineering staff and sales teams by creating documentation, providing technical leadership during quoting, and reviewing project scopes and compliance.

    + Assist in manufacturing, assembly, and field service with technical troubleshooting and continuous improvement feedback loops.

    + Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and provide occasional onsite customer/supplier support (up to 10% regional travel).
