Description

Robert Half is looking for an experienced and highly organized Paralegal to join a client's Estate Planning team in Chicago, Illinois. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented individual with a strong background in gift tax returns, trust administration, and estate planning processes. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance, managing client files, and supporting attorneys in delivering exceptional client service.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and file annual gift tax returns (Form 709) with minimal oversight, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.

• Collaborate with clients and accountants to gather necessary financial documentation for tax filings.

• Manage the administration of Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts (ILITs), including tracking premium payments and issuing Crummey notices.

• Draft and maintain trust-related documents, such as deeds and assignments, while coordinating asset transfers with financial institutions.

• Organize and track estate planning promissory notes, including monitoring maturity dates and coordinating renewals or payoffs.

• Maintain detailed and compliant records for trust funding activities, ensuring all documentation is accurate and accessible.

• Provide proactive communication to clients, addressing inquiries and ensuring timely follow-ups on outstanding items.

• Support attorneys by anticipating client needs and delivering high-quality administrative assistance.

• Ensure compliance with legal standards and best practices in estate planning and trust administration.

• Utilize legal software and systems to manage case files and workflows efficiently

Requirements • At least 5 years of experience in estate planning or tax-related legal work.

• Strong knowledge of gift tax laws, trust funding procedures, and ILIT administration.

• Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

• Proficiency in legal document management systems, case management software, and Microsoft Office Suite.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with clients and legal professionals.

• Ability to work independently while maintaining a high level of accuracy and confidentiality.

• Paralegal certificate or bachelor’s degree from an accredited program is preferred.

• Notary Public certification or willingness to obtain is an added advantage.
