Description of Work Unit
The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition has 32 faculty and adjunct members and 23 research associates and administrative staff, ~600 undergraduate students and offers undergraduate degrees in Nutrition and Food Science, Hospitality Management and Fermentation Science and Technology. The department also offers MS and PhD degrees in Nutrition Science, Community Nutrition and Food Science and Safety and currently has ~75 graduate students. Department research is supported by federal grants from NIH , USDA , foundations, industry and two endowments that support a faculty chair and the Lillian Fountain-Smith Nutrition Conference hosted by the department. Research has focused on childhood obesity, community nutrition among limited resource audiences, molecular and metabolic nutrition targeted at chronic disease prevention, bioactive food components, and food safety. The department’s Extension faculty is responsible for numerous creative, high impact educational and engagement programs throughout the state, including EFNEP . A MPH program focus area in Public Health Nutrition within the School of Public Health provides new collaborative opportunities. The department offers an accredited B.S. dietetics program and an M.S. coordinated dietetic internship program. With the overall growth in the department, faculty and student diversity has increased. Position Summary
The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Colorado State University ( CSU ) invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in Community/Public Health Nutrition. The 9-month non-tenure track appointment will begin on August 15, 2025. We are seeking applicants with expertise in behavioral sciences at the individual, population, policy, systems and/or environmental levels as it relates to nutrition, health promotion and disease prevention. All areas of community/public health nutrition will be considered, with emphasis on the candidate’s capability of directing an innovative and impactful research program. Examples of research areas include, but are not limited to, dissemination and implementation science; behavioral or environmental intervention strategies and methodology; dietetics; dietary patterns; food systems and sustainability; food security; health equity; rural health; systems science; translational research; and/or health outcomes. The successful candidate is expected to establish a nationally recognized, externally funded interdisciplinary research program, to integrate their research into existing Department and University priority areas, and to teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. The position will have Department and College of Health and Human Sciences support, research and teaching infrastructure, and access to collaborative opportunities both within CSU and with its partners, including the Cooperative Extension, Center for Healthy Aging, Prevention Research Center, Colorado Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute, Colorado School of Public Health, the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and the Food Systems Institute. Conditions of EmploymentPre-employment Criminal Background Check (required for new hires)
Required Job Qualifications
+ Ph.D. in Nutrition
+ Registered Dietitian Nutritionist ( RDN ) for at least 5 years
+ At least 5 years experience teaching experience at both the graduate and undergraduate level
+ Evidence of research experience and productivity
+ Certified Lactation Counselor
+ Experience with course development and implementation
Preferred Job Qualifications
+ MPH in Public Health Nutrition
