    Job Summary

    The U Career Success seeks qualified applicants for a Career Coach working with University of Utah Students. A Career Coach educates, guides, and prepares students for the transition from an academic environment to employment by proactively managing a portfolio of students and coordinating activities between students, employers, and U of U departments. A coach also designs and conducts workshops on career and professional development topics.

     

    The ideal candidate is passionate about student success, comfortable with change and innovation, collaborative and supportive, has a strong customer service orientation, a desire to succeed in placement metrics, and a high level of professionalism.

     

    Coaches must solve complex problems that relate to coaching individual students who come from a wide variety of backgrounds. These individuals are making life-changing choices. Each coach must know employment laws and ethical standards for hiring and recruiting. Our office follows the standards of the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

    Responsibilities

    + Proactively manage, outreach, follow up, and interact with a specialized caseload of students.

    + Coach students in the discovery and decision-making process of selecting a career.

    + Guides students through self-assessments, identifies available resources, and assists students with career research.

    + Assists students with preparing resumes, practicing for interviews, and searching for jobs.

    + Develops and presents multiple training workshops to prepare students on employment and job search aspects.

    + Utilizes department platforms such as Excel, Qualtrics, Acuity, and in Working with students and colleagues.

    + Maintains accurate data and produces statistical reports on job placement, salaries, recruitment activities, and other information with strong detail and organizational skills.

    + Team player that facilitates cooperative and collaborative community and institutional relationships.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).

     

    Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.

    + 3+ years of occupational experience

    + 3+ years of career mentoring experience

    + Exposure to coaching and mentoring students

    + Ability to resolve complex issues individually and through teamwork

    + Curious and flexible with an excellent work ethic

    + Knowledge and exposure to CRMs like Salesforce, comfortable with technology and quick to learn new tools.
