    Overview

     

    Nutrition Services Lead

     

    Full Time; 11:30am-8:00pm

     

    Rock Island, IL

     

    Works with the Manager of Nutrition Services and the Director of Nutrition Services to hire, train and direct foodservice workers . The employee prepares employee schedules, assists in the Q A program, prepares HACCP production and service logs, ensures quality patient care, trains employees, and relieves for staff absence . Employee also assists in ordering, inventory and food control. Employee ensures food safety and quality of food for service in retail as well as patient services.

    Responsibilities

    + Completes quality and safety checks of food at all aspects, from production to service.

    + Work with all staff in department to support daily tasks

    + Trains foodservice staff to assigned tasks; monitors employee performance . Address issues with staff on task related issues as they occur - serve as a coach to employees just learning new skills . Maintains education records of staff.

    + Interviews and hires new staff . Obtains references . Follow up on new staff with questions or concerns about orientation.

    + Develops department orientation with Manager of Nutrition Services; orients new staff to dietary department . Develops and tests staff on area competencies.

    + Conducts departmental sanitation/safety checklists; assigns weekly checklists to appropriate person ; follow up on problems identified - document resolution . Assigns and inspects cleaning tasks; spot checks storage areas to be sure foods are utilized properly . Inspects quality of food items prepared; observes service of patient foods to ensure proper portion control and service . Assures readiness for IDPH and JCAHO inspections.

    + Determine substitute foods to offer if food shortage occurs or increase in food demand.

    + Works with Manager of Nutrition Services and Chief Clinical Dietitian to resolve food service, staffing, and food-related issues.

    + Prioritizes tasks to assure timely completion; plans workday to meet time goals required for each

    + type of meal service.

    + Inspects the refrigerators and freezers daily and prepares a plan for timely utilization of foods and leftovers.

    + Assures adequate supply of food and supplies to maintain smooth operation of department.

    + Works with production workers to make timely use of leftovers and other foods .

    Qualifications

    Education : Culinary Arts or Food Service Management or Similar, degree preferred (not required )

     

    Experience: 3- 5+ years high volume food production or similar preferred.

     

    License(s)/Certifi c ation(s): Serve Safe Certification (will help obtain if needed ; obtain within 6 months after hire )
