    The Security Specialist (HSPD-12) provides personnel and administrative support services for the Homeland Security Directive-12 (HSPD-12) offices within DHS Federal Protective Services (FPS), Personnel Security Division (PSD).

    Duties may include, but are not limited to:

    + Initiate background investigations.

    + Manage receipt of security documents submitted from contractor applicants.

    + Conduct fingerprinting procedures

    + Initiate contact with personal references, employers of applicants, and appointees for use in pre-employment suitability inquiries.

    + Verify the appropriate level of background investigation being requested, and ensures all documents required for suitability processing have been completed and included in the individual files.

    + Operate office equipment (e.g., computers, facsimile machines, copiers, scanners, printers, and phone systems).

    + Prepare, submit, monitor, and update computer tracking systems concerning appropriate case material.

    + Serve as a source of reference and guidance for staff members regarding the monitoring and maintenance of case-material.

    + Provide research and technical support to projects.

    + Process requests for Personal Verification Cards in accordance with HSPD-12

    + Review eQIP and forms for completeness, accuracy, and provide technical assistance with applicants

    + Receives telephone calls and respond to incoming email messages

    + Additional duties as needed.

    Minimum Experience & Education

    + High School Diploma or equivalent required.

    + Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience.

    + Relevant experience shall include experience within one or more of the standard securities and/or intelligence fields e.g., technical, physical, information, industrial, personnel and operational security.

    + Subject matter expertise and hands-on experience in one or more security and/or intelligence discipline and experience implementing complex government security and/or intelligence programs and policies is preferable.

    + Must be highly organized and have excellent oral and written communication skills.

    + Shall demonstrate a proficiency in various types of information technology applications, such as Microsoft Office, including MS Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint.

    + Familiarity with ISMS, eQIP, CVS, and/or DISS is preferred, but not required.

    + Must be able to obtain and maintain a US government Public Trust security clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to maintain a Public Trust Clearance.

    Work Environment:

    + This position is performed in a traditional office environment.

    Physical Demands:

    + While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; use fingers and hands to type or write; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
