    Job Description

    This position exists to serve students, faculty, and staff of the college by providing academic student support and referrals. The position offers services that are critical to student success and must find ways to assist and motivate students in finding success in their program areas. The position will deliver services to students in multiple locations, both in the college and remotely, adapting multiple technologies and delivery modes to meet student needs.

    Principle Responsibilities

    1. Provides academic success coaching to students by:

    + Maintaining and monitoring a caseload of students - monitoring their progress via check-ins, scheduled meetings, proactive outreach, and regular communication.

    + Assisting students to develop self-efficacy by identifying and overcoming obstacles that may be impeding academic success; motivating students to practice self-regulation and to take ownership of their academic success.

    + Helping students to identify, develop, and implement learning strategies and study skills specific to course materials.

    + Referring students to appropriate academic personnel and support resources, and collaborating with others as necessary to monitor and accelerate the academic progress of referred students.

    + Utilizing technology to schedule appointments, maintain records, and communicate with students.

    2. Schedules, administers and proctors exams for both current and potential students, including but not limited to Accuplacer and exams for Minnesota West courses.

    3. Provide remedial instruction, support, and services to students through professional and/or peer tutoring options, (i.e. Tutor.com), navigation of course delivery modes (D2L, ITV, zoom, or other platforms). Accommodate students with disabilities as recommended by respective personnel. Maintains records as required for reporting purposes.

    4. Provides support to the Foundation Director with scholarship management. This would include reviewing scholarships for accuracy, updating website information on scholarships, archiving old applications, monitor scholarship acceptance, finalizing awards and notifying financial aid and business office for processing, checking award letters for accuracy, communicating awards to marketing and donors, and checking award winners’ GPA after the semester to ensure criteria is met for the following semester, if appropriate.

    5. Maintains the LARC space and works with Student Success Coordinator for trouble-shooting any concerns.

    6. Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department, student service, orientation and general campus needs. Assist to maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.

    Salary Range:

    $20.58 - $28.35 Hourly

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Post-secondary coursework in Study Skills sufficient to provide technical lab services for students, faculty, and staff **OR**

    + 6 months of teaching/tutoring experience in Study Skills at the high school level or above **OR**

    + An equivalent combination of education and work experience.

    Preferred Qualification

    + Six months of teaching/tutoring experience at the high school level or above or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.

    + Organizational skills sufficient to ensure records are accurate, filed appropriately and retrievable when needed.

    + Knowledge of FERPA and Minnesota Government Data Practices Act and the ability to maintain confidentiality of private information in compliance with laws, policies and procedures.

    + Time management skills sufficient to prioritize work.

    + Knowledge of English (reading, writing, speaking) sufficient to speak, read, understand and respond to a variety of spoken and written communications.

    + Customer service skills, via phone, digital communications and in person, sufficient to explain rules, regulations, standards, programs, policies, procedures, services, etc. and provide accurate information to customers in a prompt, courteous, professional manner.

    + Problem solving skills sufficient to be able to address and resolve issues and refer those issues that need to be escalated to another department/source.

    + Ability to organize multiple tasks, initiate actions and work independently.

    + Non-English Languages (speaking/translation and/or writing and/or reading) e.g. Spanish

    + Knowledge of Minnesota West policies, services and procedures sufficient to answer questions when asked and to refer questions appropriately.

    + Experience working with students from diverse and traditionally underserved backgrounds and with varied needs.

    + Communication skills, both oral and written in individual and group settings via phone or in person, sufficient to motivate students and influence behavior, change an opinion, or turn a situation around and work with colleagues in a cooperative and respectful manner.

    + Knowledge of academic retention and success strategies, including 1:1 coaching.
