DWM owns and operates two surface water treatment plants, two large high hazard dams, two water reclamation facilities, approximately 1,300 miles of water mains, six water storage tanks, and a collection system with 1,200 miles of gravity mains, 33,000 manholes, and 65 lift stations. The Utility Engineering Division is made up of a highly engaged team of professionals that manage capital projects aimed at improving, expanding, and maintaining these critical assets. We are seeking a self-motivated engineering specialist to assist in these efforts.
The engineering specialist should be devoted to providing engineering support and inspection for a variety of utility projects. The selected candidate will provide specialized and technical activities in support of the Utility Engineering Division. Work involves specialized administrative and technical assistance in contract administration, project management, design and permitting.
Duties/Responsibilities
+ Assist with contracts, projects, and/or program operations and participate in special projects
+ Prepare, process, review, update, and/or maintain files, records, reports, contracts, work orders, agreements, certificates, logs, and other documentation
+ Analyze maps and gather data related to underground facilities, including researching records and information
+ Troubleshoot issues or make recommendations to resolve issues
+ Monitor, track, and investigate public requests, inquiries, and complaints
+ Serve as a liaison to and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate projects
+ Interpret and ensure compliance with contract, project, and applicable policies, procedures, and specifications
+ Provide support to field crews and conduct field investigations and inspections as needed
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
+ High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TASC)
+ Four years of paraprofessional engineering support experience in the area of assignment
+ Must have a valid, unrestricted, North Carolina Class C driver's license "or" if you currently have another state driver's license, be willing and able to obtain a valid NC driver's license within 60 days of start date.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
Additional Preferred Skills
+ NASSCO PACP/MACP/LACP certification
+ Familiar with Cityworks
+ Familiar with ArcGIS
+ Knowledge of applicable laws and regulatory codes relevant to design, permitting, and operation of collection and distribution systems
+ Excellent written and oral communication skills
