    This opening is for a key software engineering leadership position within a large and dynamic business area providing premier Electronic Warfare (EW) systems for military aircraft. The individual chosen will be the chief software architect responsible for charting the course for future upgrades and modernization of the existing foudational software architecture. Leading the development of the new architecture will be a pivotol aspect of this role and establising a leverage construct to efficiently adapt and use this architecture across the four product lines that make up the Electronic Combat Solutions (ECS) Business Area. The individual will be the direct supervisor of a group of senior Subject Matter Experts (SME) that are working directly on the programs that use the software architecture. They will also be the lead of a "capability group" that provides governance of the software across the business area and beyond.

     

    The ideal candidate will have a prior experience in EW software architecture, software development, system integration, software estimation, large scale project management, DevSecOps, modern software development techniques and a proven ability to lead and coordinate large teams of software engineering professionals. This role will be critical in sustaining and enhancing the technical and managerial leadership pipeline, spanning across various programs, capabilities, and technologies.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Drive the standardization and continuous improvement of the EW software architecture, software development processes, best practices, and software engineering reuse across the business area.

    + Develop a software roadmap for adoption of the Common EW Software Architecture across all new EW programs and existing programs undergoing major modifications.

    + Provide direct supervision and mentorship to a leadership team of about 15 employees, with a focus on career development, performance management and employee engagement.

    + Collaborate with business leadership to ensure successful technical software solutions, proposal and program execution across the business area

    + Identify and develop critical skills required to meet program and business objectives

    + Contribute to the establishment of goals and standards of performance, creation of technical plans and software road maps

    + Help ensure efficient execution through utilization of common capabilities, tools and techniques across the business area

    + Ensure technical content of new business proposals are both technically and financially sound

     

    Because of the need for consistent, in-person collaboration and/or the requirement to perform all work onsite due to the nature of this role, it will be performed fulltime on site. This means work will be conducted on location at a BAE Systems facility 100% of the time.

    Required Education, Experience, & Skills

    + Bachelor's Degree or Master s Degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field, and minimum of 12 years of work experience or equivalent experience.

    + Secret Security Clearance (active within the past two years).

    + Extensive experience architecting EW software and development and integration of software for EW systems

    + Current knowledge in the technologies, methodologies, processes and tools used in the software industry with a demonstrated track record of deploying these on programs

    + Experience with modern engineering techniques, such as Model Based Engineering, Agile, DevSecOps, Containerization, etc.

    + Extensive background in embedded systems, and application software development.

    + Strong leadership skills and the ability to interface with senior internal personnel on significant organizational matters, often requiring coordination between organizations

    + Demonstrated ability to organize, develop, lead, and motivate technical teams of 15 engineers

    + Experience with managing projects to ensure work scope, schedule, and budget are well defined and maintained

    + People/Functional management experience with proven performance management, mentoring, coaching, and communication skills

    Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

    + Current/active Top Secret security clearance

    + Previous experience with software metrics to support estimating and development productivity

     

    Pay Information

     

    Full-Time Salary Range: $150370 - $255630

     

    Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
