    KEY FUNCTIONS

    I. Administration - 5%

     

    Well-developed interpersonal skills and be able to establish and maintain effective interpersonal

     

    relationships with peers, senior faculty and subordinates.

     

    1. Participates in department/division/institutional meetings/grand rounds/seminars/events

     

    and serve on committees. This may include traveling to meeting(s), listening to meeting

    deliberations, and reporting meeting outcomes in an appropriate manner using

    electronic or written communication. In addition, provide verbal feedback and didactic

     

    information exchange regarding meeting progress and outcomes.

     

    2. Effective participant in teams and serve in an exemplary manner as a role model to

     

    colleagues, students, and support staff.

     

    3. Demonstrate considerable ability to participate in administrative activities.

    II. Research - 90%

     

    Demonstrate considerable ability in independent research with consistent record of successful

     

    peer-reviewed research funding.

     

    1. Develop and maintain an original, creative and independent research program and

     

    submission of investigator-initiated grant proposals in related basic science that fulfills

     

    the mission and goals of the department with evidence of high quality and productivity.

     

    2. Submit ongoing publications as major author of peer-reviewed journals and scholarly

     

    presentations impacting knowledge viewed by peers on local or national levels.

     

    3. Ability to synthesize information pertaining to the area of research and protocol

     

    implementation with excellent oral and written skills.

     

    4. Actively interact and participate in collaborative studies within and outside the

     

    Department.

     

    5. Ability to complete grant proposals, applications, budget development, and analysis.

    III. Education/Teaching - 5%

     

    Meaningful contribution in education and training and successful mentor to trainees, faculty, and

     

    staff.

     

    1. Present or participate at departmental training activities, continuing education

    conferences, and meetings, which require verbal interaction with colleagues throughout

    the hospital and campus. This includes division and departmental seminars,

     

    departmental brown bag seminars featuring trainee presentations and program retreats.

     

    2. Serve as a mentor/advisor and provide a balanced, stimulating, ethical, integrated and

     

    nurturing educational experience at the highest level of intellectual performance for

     

    graduate, postdoctoral and other trainees in the department.

     

    IV. Service (External or Extramural Service)

    • Participate in external or extramural service such as but not limited to external research

     

    committees, collaborative research activities, conferences, professional society activities,

     

    study sections, staff meetings, etc.

     

    • Edit and/or review presentations for scientific meetings, seminars, or public dissemination of

     

    research findings, abstracts, protocols, manuscripts, books, publications, reports or oral

     

    presentations, patents associated with research, research proposals, grant applications, etc.

     

    *EssentialFunctions:*

    *Assay Techniques*. Perform assays for protein and nucleic acid analyses, traditional flow cytometry,

    spectral flow cytometry, CyTOF, multiplex cytokine profiling, Seahorse, Isoplexis, and expansion of

    TIL using TIL3.0 methodology. In addition, the Instructor will be responsible for leading the analysis

     

    strategies for these assays and experimental design.

     

    *Assay Development.* Spectral flow cytometry based metabolic assays will be developed for use in

     

    expanded TIL and myeloid cells as well as for fresh tumor tissue flow cytometry. This individual must

     

    comply with institutional rules that follow OSHA regulations. This individual must design and develop

     

    associated SOPs for new assays.

     

    *Grant Generation and Submission.* The instructor is responsible for supporting the PI in grant writing

    and submission including but not limited to CPRIT, NCI, DOD and other granting agencies or

    foundations. In addition, the individual will be responsible for working with the PI on associated

     

    progress reports and data generation for reports and new submissions.

     

    *Scientific Mentorship.* Work with PI to mentor junior staff in the laboratory as well as interns and

     

    graduate students. Training lab members on new assays developed to study immune metabolism.

     

    *Presentation of Research Results.* Individual will travel to scientific meetings as necessary to

     

    present results of experiments and make ready results for publications of manuscript/abstracts. In

     

    addition, must prepare for publication in peer review scientific journals.

    Requires maintaining meticulous record of experimental data and protocols whereby individual will sit

    for long periods of time in addition to going to library. Will use computer analysis to provide slides

     

    and graphs of data. Must be able to communicate in a clear and understandable manner.

     

    *MarginalFunctions:*

     

    Read scientific articles and references. Communicate and collaborate verbally and in print with other

     

    investigators at UTMDACC and other institutions. Use computer to record data and prepare

     

    presentations of data. Read and retain knowledge of instructions for all machines and equipment utilized

     

    in laboratory. Prepare and edit manuscripts, scientific presentations and abstracts.

     

    This position has a target base salary of $65,000 to $80,000 and is eligible for incentive compensation, comprehensive health, wellness, time off, savings, and retirement benefits, as well as relocation support, as applicable.
