    The anticipated hourly wage for this position is between $53 and $54.37. Hourly wage may depend upon experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.

    Description:

    Title: Research Associate/ Sr. Research Associate Contractor, Capsid Engineering- NGS

    Position Overview:

    Genomic Medicine Unit based in Waltham, MA is looking for a highly motivated candidate focused on next generation sequencing for the development of novel technological strategies in capsid discovery. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the Genomic Medicine Unit in identifying improved AAV capsids through sequencing of plasmids/ viruses/ animal tissues to enable gene therapy programs from early discovery research through development, in a variety of disease areas. This is a 1-year contract role, with possibility of extension.

    Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

    • Support and lead the implementation of next-generation sequencing techniques to characterize plasmid/ AAV libraries.

    • Collaborate cross-functionally with team members to process RNA samples for RNA-seq of in vitro and in vivo screening studies.

    • Implementation of multiple state-of-the-art techniques in molecular biology and biochemistry.

    • Initiate, design, analyze, and present experiments at internal meetings.

    • Maintain accurate records of experiments and analyses.

    • Maintain effective communication with manager and other colleagues.

    Qualifications:

    A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biotechnology or allied fields with at least two years of direct next-generation sequencing experience.

    Prior experience:

    + Amplicon sequencing of DNA libraries

    + 2 years of NGS experience

    + NGS, RNA-seq

    + AAV Libraries

    + Experience with Illumina

    + RNA-seq with cells and/ or tissue

    + Operation of Illumina NextSeq instruments

    + Familiarity with NGS data analysis platforms

    + Experience with laboratory automation for sequencing

    + Excellent organizational skills to manage and prioritize schedules, quality control steps, and data analysis.

    + Excellent speaking, reading, and writing skills.

    + Curiosity and a willingness to work in a highly collaborative team environment.

    + Candidates must be authorized to work in the USA.

    Nice to Have/ Preferred:

    + Biotech/ Pharm experience

    + Core academic experience will be accepted

    The integrated, cross-disciplinary Genomic Medicine Unit (GMU) is accelerating progress toward gene and cell therapies by combining an array of technologies, ranging from, viral (AAV) and non-viral (Lipid Nano Particles, LNP) gene-delivery platforms. GMU’s mission is to develop and manufacture transformative genetic therapies for patients with rare and common diseases, using viral and non-viral nucleic acid delivery system. Our vision is to establish cutting edge platform technologies of gene editing, silencing, and augmentation, along with manufacturing platforms to enable broad access to genomic therapies for unmet need.

     

    GMU’s AAV Technologies Laboratory is working on bringing safer gene therapies for the patients by identifying novel AAV capsids for gene therapies with augmented tropism and immunological profiles. We rely on in depth understanding of AAV biology, high throughput assays, and sophisticated quantitative models.

     

    **Pay Details:** $53.00 to $54.37 per hour
