    Job Summary and Qualifications

     

    The Pathology and Clinical Lab Supervisor is a bachelor’s prepared Medical Technologist who plans, organizes and directs the activities of the laboratory in accordance with regulatory guidelines. The scope of this role includes the performance of diagnostic tests and process procedures, development and implementation of policy and procedures and coordination of laboratory activities with other departments and organizations.

     

    High degree of self-motivation and excellent critical thinking/problem solving skills. Excellent written, verbal and organizational skills. Effective communication with all levels of personnel and function as a liaison at a variety of departmental and organization levels. Ability and willingness to function effectively in a team environment. Provide diagnostic testing in conformance with recognized principles and standards. Proficient in the performance of diagnostic tests on all age groups. Ability to provide education related to all procedures and results, as well as troubleshooting skills. Knowledge of current regulatory and accrediting standards is required.

     

    + Performs technical procedures proficiently in accordance with laboratory standards.

    + Establishes and maintains a Quality Control Program appropriate for testing performed.

    + Establishes parameters for accepted levels of performance and ensures these levels are maintained throughout the entire testing process from initial receipt of specimen through sample analysis and reporting of results.

    + Ensures enrollment in proficiency testing program commensurate with the services offered.

    + Participates in preparation of the Laboratory for CAP and JCAHO Medicare inspections.

    + Verifies the validity of patient test results through the evaluation of quality control values prior to reporting patient test results.

    + Performs maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration procedures related to each test performed.

    What qualifications you will need:

    + Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, biological sciences or related field of study plus a minimum of five years laboratory experience.

    + Masters degree or specialty certification preferred.

    + Certification with ASCP or NCA.
