Description Katie Weigel with Robert Half Finance and Accounting is recruiting to fill an Alternative Investment Accountant position with a large financial services company in Reno that offers wealth management services to high-net-worth individuals. This role is part of a team that performs all accounting, reconciliation, record keeping, and investment performance reporting for diversified investment portfolios that span nearly all segments of the global capital markets.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytically minded Senior Accountant to join our alternative investments accounting team. This role is instrumental in managing the accounting, valuation and performance reporting processes for a complex portfolio of private equity and alternative investments. You will work closely with the investment team to ensure the integrity of financial reporting, accuracy of investment records, and compliance with industry’s best practices.
This position reports to the Director of Finance and offers exposure to a dynamic and intellectually stimulating environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Private Equity Fund Accounting:
o Process and record capital calls, distributions, and commitment schedules for a variety of private equity and alternative investment funds.
o Reconcile and maintain capital account balances and commitments across multiple entities.
• Month-End and Quarter-End Close:
o Prepare and review monthly close packages, including journal entries, workpapers, and investment performance schedules.
o Prepare quarterly performance reports.
o Support the preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP and investment company accounting and reporting guidance.
o Assist with compiling lead sheets, footnotes, and supporting documentation for internal and external reporting.
• Valuation Oversight and Analysis:
o Prepare annual capital account reconciliations to validate the investment funds audited financial statements with internal accounting records.
• Analytical and Special Projects:
o Research and respond to internal and external inquiries regarding investment transactions, performance metrics, and accounting treatments.
o Collaborate on data analytics initiatives to improve performance monitoring and reporting (e.g., Power BI dashboards, Excel models).
o Identify and implement process enhancements to increase efficiency and accuracy in reporting and reconciliation.
• Cross-Functional Support:
o Provide insights and summaries to senior leadership on private equity funds that report a material change from either a rolling four quarter or quarter to quarter timeline.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
• CPA preferred; or minimum of 5–7 years of relevant experience in accounting, audit, or financial reporting
• Prior experience with private equity or alternative investments preferred
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel required; experience with Power BI, or other data analytics tools preferred
• Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and communicate findings clearly
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable interfacing with both finance professionals and non-financial stakeholders
• Self-starter with a continuous improvement mindset and strong problem-solving abilities
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, team-oriented environment
