    Duties Description A Food Service Worker 2 is responsible for serving food to patients, reheating food, keeping food service areas clean and in good order. Other duties include, but are not limited to the following:• Cleans the dining and service areas, orders supplies as needed, and puts them away. • Supervise subordinate staff in food preparation and service activities. • Plans and schedules appropriate coverage for assigned dining room or kitchen activities, effecting changes when necessary.• Reviews the work of subordinates for compliance with established standards and schedules; inspects for proper procedures including routine food preparation, food control portion, appropriate dish washing and other cleaning actions and the maintenance of sanitary standards.• May weigh and measure ingredients; may prepare and cook various meats, fish, hot cereals, vegetables, desserts, and simple baked goods.• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.Mandatory overtime (MOT) is a requirement of this position. Chosen candidate(s) will be added to the mandatory overtime roster, which is utilized on a rotating basis. The MOT is applied during times of emergency, after the agency has made a good faith effort to have overtime covered and all other staffing options have been exhausted (volunteers, hourly staff, contracted staff). Our Addiction Treatment Centers (ATCs) operate 24/7/365 programing. Therefore, MOT IS an essential function of this position and is critical to maintaining adequate staffing at all times in order to ensure the health and safety of clients within the facility.

     

    Minimum Qualifications Permanent status as a Food Service Worker 2, G-9 and interested in reassignment ~OR~ Reachable for permanent appointment on the current Civil Service eligible list for Food Service Worker 2, G-9 ~OR~ Eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.Provisional Appointment: In the event that there is not a valid eligible list, candidates who meet the qualifications may be qualified for a provisional appointment. Promotion Qualifications: You must be a qualified employee of New York State and have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/c service as a Food Service Worker 1; OR One year of permanent non-competitive service as a Dietitian Technician or Cook.Open Competitive: Candidates must have had two years of qualifying experience in commercial or institutional food preparation or food service. Please see examples of qualifying experience below as you must sufficiently provide the details of the experience as you complete the application.• EXAMPLES OF QUALIFYING EXPERIENCE: Commercial or institutional food service includes but is not limited to employment in a hospital, nursing home, or school cafeteria; residential dining hall; restaurant; or diner. Experience must have included responsibility for food preparation, food service, and ordering of food and non-food supplies. Vagueness or omissions of the details of the experience on the application will not be interpreted in your favor.• EXAMPLES OF NON-QUALIFYING EXPERIENCE: Non-qualifying food service experience includes but is not limited to waiting tables (waiter/waitress/server), greeting and seating guests (host/hostess), clearing and cleaning tables (bussing), serving beverages (bartender), cashier, dishwasher, or cleaning staff.• SUBSTITUTION for the QUALIFYING EXPERIENCE: Appropriate** formal culinary arts or food service training which resulted in a certificate or degree may be credited towards the above experience as follows:Either 1: a six-month certificate training program** - up to six months of the required experience;Or 2: a one-year certificate training program** - up to one year of the required experience;Or 3: an associate degree** or higher in culinary arts or food service from a regionally accredited college or university - up to two years of the required experience.**Appropriate formal food service training programs are programs accredited by one of the following: American Culinary Federation Education Foundation Accrediting Commission (ACFEFAC) or non-degree programs recognized by the American Culinary Federation Foundation Educational Assurance program or programs accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT). You must indicate the training certificate or degree information on the application.Note: If you are appointed provisionally, you must take the next scheduled Civil Service examination for this title and your score must be reachable on the resulting eligible list before you can be permanently appointed. If you do not pass the examination or achieve a reachable score, you may not be retained.

     

    Additional Comments The salary range listed in this posting reflects the full range for this graded position, factoring in annual performance advances based on satisfactory annual performance reviews. Candidates with no previous State service will begin at the hiring rate (starting rate of the salary range) listed above, plus any applicable Location Pay/Geographic Pay/Shift Pay differentials.Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations, and negotiated union contracts.Excellent Health Insurance Benefits Including Vision and Dental, NYS Employees Retirement System (Pension), Optional Deferred Compensation, Continuing Education Benefits, Generous Paid Leave Benefits, Compensation for 13 State holidays per year. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees.
