    Duties Description As a Maintenance Supervisor 4, you would supervise the operation and maintenance of the physical plant of medium state facilities, off-site facilities, or community residences. You would prepare detailed plans and specifications and estimates for small alteration and repair projects. You would supervise and inspect the execution of plans and instruct subordinates in general building construction and maintenance. You would prepare reports and identify mechanical and maintenance needs. Maintenance of roads, grounds, and related equipment might also be your responsibility.

     

    Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be reachable for appointment on the current Civil Service eligible list;ORTransfer Opportunity - have permanent status as a Maintenance Supervisor 4, Grade 21, and be eligible for lateral transfer; or be eligible for transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. To qualify for a Section 70.1 transfer, candidates must have at least one year of permanent status, in a qualifying title approved for transfer by Civil Service, within two salary grades of the grade 21 level.ORProvisional Opportunity –In the event that there is not a valid eligible list at this location, candidates who meet either the Promotion or Open-Competitive minimum qualifications for the Maintenance Supervisor 4 examinations may apply and if hired, will be provisionally appointed.Candidates appointed provisionally must receive a score that is reachable on the resulting eligible list before they can be permanently appointed.Promotion Examination Minimum Qualifications:You must be a qualified employee of New York State and have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service asEither A. a Maintenance Supervisor 3, Plant Utilities Engineer 3, or Public Buildings Manager 2;Or B. a Building Maintenance Supervisor 2; Building Restoration Specialist; Chief Janitor; Maintenance Supervisor 1 or 2; Motor Equipment Maintenance Supervisor 3; Park Sanitation Superintendent; Plant Utilities Engineer 2; Public Buildings Manager 1; Regional Park Maintenance Supervisor; Supervising Carpenter; Supervising Electrician; Supervising Mason and Plasterer; Supervising Plumber and Steamfitter; Supervisor, General Services Grounds Operations and Horticulture 2; or Vocational Instructor 3 or 4.**Certified in and teaching the following programs (some of these programs have been renamed and would be appropriate under either the old or new name): Air Conditioning and Refrigeration/Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration; Carpentry; Electrical/Electrical Trades; Electrical Electronic Occupations; Machine Shop/Machine Tool Operations-Machine Shop; Masonry; Painting and Decoration/Residential-Commercial Building Maintenance and Remodeling; Plumbing; Sheet Metal; and Welding/Welding and Fabrication.Open-Competitive Minimum Qualifications:You must have one year of supervisory experience with overall responsibility for a large and/or multi-building physical plant AND two additional years of supervisory experience as a second-level supervisor.****In order to be considered second-level supervisory experience, you must have direct supervisory responsibility for workers who also supervised one or more workers or inmates.
