*The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) School of Nursing (UMSON)*is seeking a*Student Counselor Associate* to support the*Office of Student and Academic Services (OSAS).* The Student Counselor Associate is responsible for counseling students on the intake and recruitment process, including processing applications, verifying documentation, and actively engaging prospective students through outreach and communication efforts. This position facilitates a seamless and efficient admissions experience while also participating in promoting the institution’s programs to attract qualified applicants. The role involves maintaining accurate records, providing prospective students with academic and career counseling, and collaborating with academic departments and recruitment teams to meet enrollment targets. Under direct supervision, performs entry level professional counseling duties in one or more of the major student counseling functions such as academic advising, financial aid, career counseling, and personal counseling as part of an institutionally defined self-directed team. All employees are expected to work primarily physically within the State of Maryland* *PRIMARY DUTIES* * Provides general guidance to prospective students to aid in determining the most appropriate nursing program based on academic background, career interests, and program eligibility. Assists with understanding prerequisites, curriculum structure, and application requirements. * Reviews and approves transfer credit evaluations as appropriate, in consultation with academic leadership. * Supports prospective and submitted applicants by following up to ensure completion of applications, assisting with document submission, and responding to admissions-related inquiries. * Provides information to students on establishing career goals, on job search strategies, and informs students of availability of resources. Attends outreach events and activities, including campus visits, virtual sessions, and off-site recruitment engagements. * Refers students to appropriate internal departments such as the Office of Student Scholarships, the Office of Student Financial Assistance, or the Registrar’s Office, based on their questions or support needs. * Performs all duties of Team Associates as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: *EDUCATION*: Bachelor's degree. *EXPERIENCE*: One year of progressively responsible clerical work. *OTHER*: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience. *REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: *Thorough knowledge of team office practices, procedures and equipment; of business English, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. General knowledge of the principles of team leadership and office management. Skill in planning and coordinating team clerical work; in interpreting and applying departmental policies and procedures; in operating manual and automated office equipment including personal computers and related software; in composing correspondence, compiling statistical data, and preparing reports; in performing mathematical computations; creation and maintenance of paper and computer files; in effective telephone usage; in organizing, coordinating, and executing multiple assignments under specific time constraints. Ability to work effectively in a self-directed team-based work environment; to understand and apply team quality and performance standards. Ability to train and guide team clerical personnel; to maintain poise and courtesy under pressure; to lead analysis of clerical problems and selection of corrective action; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to plan and coordinate team activities with multiple areas of the organization; to establish and maintain effective work relationships both within and outside the team. *HIRING RANGE:$48,138 - $53,658.54*(pre-probation)*, *commensurate with education and experience.* *Candidate eligible for a 2.5% annual salary increase upon successful completion of the six-month probationary period Based on the duties of this position, selected candidates are eligible to participate in the Bargaining Unit (Union).
